Technical Lead
Technical Lead - Ruby : Up to £90k : Hybrid London with remote options
We've partnered with a Series A, mission-driven SaaS business to find a Tech Lead who will take ownership of core backend delivery and help scale a platform that is already handling millions of real-world operational requests.
As Tech Lead, you will report directly to the Director of Engineering and sit at the centre of technical and delivery decision-making. You will own the Rails monolith, drive feature delivery end-to-end, and act as the escalation point for both technical and delivery challenges across the stack.
This is a hands-on role first, but with real scope to shape how the engineering team operates.
Responsibilities as a Tech Lead:
- Own technical direction across the backend monolith, covering architecture decisions, API design, system reliability, and background job performance
- Drive end-to-end delivery, from scoping and estimation through to execution, managing trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality
- Act as the escalation point for technical challenges and communicate complex concepts clearly to both internal teams and external clients
- Mentor engineers and integrate third-party APIs while keeping delivery momentum on track
Requirements:
- Strong professional Ruby on Rails experience in production, with a solid grasp of monolith architecture and full-stack troubleshooting
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis and RESTful API design
- Comfortable with AWS-based infrastructure and Docker in development or production environments
- Proven ability to act as a genuine escalation point, with strong debugging skills and a pragmatic ownership mindset
- Experience scoping technical work, running agile ceremonies, or working in B2B SaaS or live operational systems (desirable)
If you're a strong Ruby leader or engineer ready to take your next step into technical leadership with a mission-driven SaaS business making a genuine difference in how people access the world around them, we'd love to hear from you.
