Senior Machine Learning Engineer

🤖 Senior Machine Learning Engineer | Production AI | Edge AI | LLMs

Location: Bristol (Hybrid – 3 days/week onsite)

Salary: Competitive (Dependent on experience)

Security Clearance: Must be eligible for UK SC Clearance

We're partnering with one of the UK's fastest-growing Defence and GovTech companies, to help grow their Machine Learning team.

This isn't a research role. It's an opportunity to build AI systems that solve real-world problems and are deployed into operational environments where reliability, performance and speed matter.

You'll work alongside software, hardware and systems engineers to take AI solutions from early concepts through to production deployment, building intelligent systems that make a genuine impact.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing, building and deploying production Machine Learning solutions from concept to release
  • Owning the full ML lifecycle including data engineering, model development, evaluation, deployment and monitoring
  • Developing modern AI systems using LLMs, RAG and agentic workflows where appropriate
  • Deploying AI onto edge and embedded platforms alongside cloud infrastructure
  • Building scalable MLOps pipelines including CI/CD, model versioning, automated evaluation and monitoring
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges
  • Providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practice

What we're looking for

  • Commercial experience delivering Machine Learning solutions into production
  • Strong Python software engineering skills
  • Experience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience building production LLM, RAG or agentic AI applications
  • Strong understanding of MLOps, CI/CD and cloud deployment
  • Experience working across the full ML lifecycle rather than pure research
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach

Nice to have

  • Edge AI or embedded ML deployment (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, ARM or similar)
  • Computer Vision
  • Databricks, Spark, MLflow
  • Docker, Kubernetes and AWS
  • Experience working in defence, aerospace, robotics, autonomous systems or other safety-critical environments
  • Current SC or DV clearance (although candidates eligible for SC are encouraged to apply)

What's on offer

  • Work on AI systems that solve genuine operational challenges
  • End-to-end ownership of products from R&D through to deployment
  • Modern engineering culture with strong collaboration across software, hardware and systems teams
  • Hybrid working (3 days/week in Bristol)
  • Excellent opportunities for technical progression and leadership

If you're an engineer who enjoys building production AI, solving complex problems and seeing your work deployed into the real world, I'd love to tell you more.
