Senior Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Relocate to Wiltshire)

Senior Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

(Relocate to Wiltshire)£45,000 - £58,0004 on, 4 off - rotating days and nightsMultiple permanent positions available

A seriously automated site needs seriously capable engineers.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend your shift changing lightbulbs and waiting for something to happen.

We’re helping an established UK manufacturer strengthen the Engineering team at a large, highly automated production facility.

The site operates a complex network of high-speed machinery, robotics, vision systems, conveyors and specialist packing equipment. It needs engineers who enjoy understanding how everything works together.

When a fault stops production, you’ll be trusted to work out what has happened, fix it properly and help prevent it from happening again.

What will you be working on?

The site uses interconnected machinery across its production and packing processes, including:

PLC-controlled production and packing linesAutomated loading and material-handling systemsHigh-speed conveyors, buffers and sortation equipmentCamera and vision-based inspection technologyAutomated inspection and sorting systemsRobotic pick-and-place and case-packing equipmentTray, case and packaging-handling systemsAutomated palletising, wrapping and labelling equipmentMotors, pumps, gearboxes, drives, sensors and control systemsPneumatic and hydraulic equipment

It’s fast, technical and highly interconnected. One small fault can affect the entire process, so this role needs someone who can look beyond the obvious reset button.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take responsibility for engineering performance across your shift, including:

Leading electrical and mechanical fault-finding during breakdownsDiagnosing faults across PLCs, automation, robotics and process-control equipmentCompleting planned and preventative maintenanceTackling recurring faults through proper root-cause investigationMaintaining conveyors, motors, pumps, drives, pneumatics and hydraulicsSupporting equipment modifications, installations and improvement projectsUsing the site CMMS to manage work orders, maintenance schedules and asset historyIdentifying opportunities to reduce downtime and improve reliabilityWorking closely with Production to keep the site running safely and efficientlySupporting strong engineering standards across the wider team

This is a senior hands-on position. You won’t be watching from the sidelines, but you will be expected to bring the judgement and technical confidence to take ownership when the difficult faults land.

Who are we looking for?

You’ll need to be apprentice-trained, time-served or qualified to NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or an equivalent standard in Electrical, Mechanical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.

We’re looking for:

Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding abilityExperience maintaining automated production or packing equipmentConfidence working with PLC-controlled machineryExperience with sensors, drives, motors, conveyors and control systemsKnowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systemsA track record of reducing downtime or improving machinery reliabilityExperience using a CMMS for maintenance and asset managementThe ability to stay methodical when production pressure is building

Experience with robotics, automated inspection equipment, vision technology or high-speed packing machinery would be particularly useful.

A current IET Wiring Regulations qualification and Food Safety Level 2 would be advantageous.

Not from food manufacturing?

That doesn’t automatically rule you out.

Food, FMCG or high-speed packaging experience would be valuable, but the real priority is your ability to fault-find and maintain complex automated machinery.

We’re also interested in engineers from:

Automotive manufacturingPharmaceutical or medical productionPlastics and packagingPrint and paperAutomated warehousing and distributionMaterials handlingOther high-volume manufacturing environments

If you understand automation, can fault-find across electrical and mechanical systems and don’t need someone standing over you during a breakdown, we want to hear from you.
