Senior Test Analyst
One day a week onsite. Permanent. Manual and automation. Real ownership.
A long-established UK organisation is hiring a Senior Test Analyst into its in-house QA team. This is a hands-on senior role with leadership exposure, sitting within a small testing function that supports a broad and active change portfolio. You'll work alongside another senior tester, mentor a small team of analysts and report into the Test and QA Manager.
It's a genuine 70/30 split between hands-on testing and planning, documentation and reporting. Not a role for someone who's drifted into doc-only test leadership.
What you'll be doing
- Leading testing activity across integration, data, application and front-end workstreams
- Writing test strategies, plans, estimates and sign-off documentation
- Driving API and integration test automation using Postman
- SQL-based data testing and Power BI report validation
- Cross-browser and device testing using LambdaTest
- Selenium and SpecFlow/C# automation where it fits the workstream
- Defect management end-to-end, working closely with developers, product owners and DevOps
- Running proofs of concept on new testing tools, including AI-assisted approaches
- Mentoring Test Analysts and contributing to QA process improvement
- Deputising for the Test and QA Manager when needed
What you'll bring
- Strong hands-on testing background, manual and automated, with a manual-first foundation
- Proven experience leading testing activity on software delivery projects
- Azure DevOps for test management and reporting
- Postman or similar for API and integration automation
- SQL for data validation, Power BI exposure
- Selenium, SpecFlow or equivalent BDD frameworks
- C# (preferred) or Java for automation scripting
- Confident communicator across technical and business stakeholders
- ISTQB or ISEB Foundation or higher
- Minimum two years in a senior testing role with mentoring or lead responsibility
Nice to have
- Exposure to NEC Northgate Housing, Dynamics 365 or other enterprise platforms
- Background in regulated or public-sector-flavoured environments (banking, insurance, housing, utilities, pensions)
- Experience contributing to automation framework setup or tool selection
The team is at an interesting point. There's a license for LambdaTest, some automation in place on portals, and integration test automation in Postman is the current build-out. Beyond that, the wider automation roadmap (Dynamics, NEC regression) is on the horizon but not fully scoped. You'll contribute to shaping it, but framework strategy ownership is likely to be a separate role down the line.
If you want a finished, polished automation function to walk into, this isn't it. If you want a stable senior seat where you can hands-on test, mentor and influence how automation matures over the next two to three years, it's a good one.
The setup
- Permanent, £55,000 to £66,000 depending on experience
- Hybrid, one day a week onsite in West Yorkshire
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, pension, standard benefits
- Three-stage process: competency screen, technical assessment, final with a short presentation
