LEAD CLOUD ENGINEER
Role Overview
Hackney Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Cloud Engineer to take overall responsibility for the design, delivery and optimisation of self-service cloud infrastructure and tooling. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring cloud applications and services remain secure, high performing, sustainable, and deliver an excellent user experience for engineers, suppliers and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, delivery and optimisation of cloud infrastructure and tooling.
- Develop and maintain Hackney’s multi-cloud platform across AWS and Google Cloud.
- Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
- Work alongside senior enterprise architecture teams to evolve cloud engineering target architecture.
- Ensure all cloud services align with Hackney’s development, security and cloud standards.
- Support delivery teams with strategic technical guidance and cloud engineering expertise.
- Participate in governance groups including Technical Design Authority and Cyber Security forums.
- Contribute to policy and procedure development to support a robust cloud platform.
- Mentor junior team members and support the growth and development of the Cloud Engineering team.
- Ensure cloud solutions meet objectives around security, financial prudence, inclusion, sustainability and transparency.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Ideally educated to Bachelor’s degree level.
- AWS Solutions Architect certification, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Google Professional Cloud Architect certification, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Strong experience across AWS and Google Cloud environments.
- Proven experience leading cloud engineering teams and enterprise-scale cloud platforms.
- Excellent understanding of cloud security, governance and automation best practices.
