OpenShift Engineer

Candidate Profile

In this role, you will design, deploy and manage secure, high-performing OpenShift environments that underpin critical systems. You’ll take ownership of cluster operations, performance, and lifecycle management, while applying creative engineering approaches to enhance automation and platform resilience. Working closely with DevOps, architecture and development teams, you will help evolve container platforms that support mission-driven applications across Space, Defence and Intelligence programmes.

You’ll contribute to automation, disaster recovery, container orchestration and infrastructure-as-code practices that streamline delivery. You will be supported by a collaborative engineering community while having the autonomy to drive improvements and shape the future of platform capability.

Key Responsibilities

Engineer & Maintain: Design, deploy and operate OpenShift infrastructure at scale.

Automate & Streamline: Implement automation with OpenStack, Ansible and scripting languages.

Orchestrate & Optimise: Manage Kubernetes workloads, container deployments and microservices.

Protect & Recover: Support disaster recovery, backup automation and continuity planning.

Collaborate & Integrate: Work with DevOps teams to evolve CI/CD and IaC workflows.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

To succeed, you’ll need hands-on expertise in OpenShift, Kubernetes and automation, along with strong understanding of containerised infrastructure and secure platform operations.

You Should Have

Practical experience designing and operating OpenShift environments.

Strong automation skills using OpenStack, Ansible and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).

Solid understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration principles.

Experience supporting CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Knowledge of disaster recovery, backup processes and secure platform operations.

Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues with a proactive, improvement-focused mindset.
