IT Technician
Freightserve recruitment are looking for a IT Technician for a well-established IT Company. The role is based in one of the Company's key clients in the Hampstead, London area.
The Role:-
You’ll be the friendly, first-line face of IT across the school—keeping classrooms, staff devices, and shared systems running smoothly. Backed by Company's Service Desk and IT Director, you’ll handle daily tickets, routine maintenance, and small improvements, and liaise with staff at all levels. This is not a senior/manager role, but you’ll need solid hands-on skills and good judgement.
Key Responsibilities:-
- Front-line support: Resolve classroom and staff issues within SLAs (login, printing, Wi-Fi, AV/interactive screens, Teams calls).
- Device lifecycle: Image/enrol laptops and desktops (Windows) via Microsoft 365/Intune/Autopilot; manage updates, encryption, and compliance.
- Accounts & access: Joiners/leavers, group membership, password resets, basic Entra ID / M365 admin.
- Printing & scanning: Queue management, drivers, defaults, basic PaperCut admin.
- Networking basics: First look checks on broadband issues, switch port/VLAN basics; escalate cleanly when needed.
- Web filtering & safeguarding tooling: Day-to-day tasks in the school’s filtering/monitoring platform (e.g., Smoothwall/Monitor/Classwize); follow DSL guidance and escalation routes.
- Patching & protection: Apply OS/app updates, check AV/EDR status, run daily/weekly checks.
- AV / interactive screens: Support classroom displays, input/firmware checks, simple configuration.
- Documentation: Keep asset register, network/printer maps, and “how-to” guides up to date.
- Staff enablement: Offer calm, clear guidance; run short 1:1 “show-me” sessions where helpful.
- Liaison & escalation: Communicate clearly with teachers, support staff, SLT; raise timely escalations to Company's Service Desk / IT Director of Education

- Tickets move quickly; staff feel heard and informed.
- Devices are compliant (patched, encrypted, signed-in correctly).
- Printers and classrooms are ready before lessons start.
- Clear notes in tickets and tidy documentation others can follow.
- Sensible boundaries on safeguarding and data protection.
Essential skills & experience:-
- Recent hands-on support in a school or similar user-dense setting.
- Windows + Microsoft 365 admin (Outlook/Teams/SharePoint/OneDrive basics).
- Intune/Autopilot experience (or equivalent MDM and willingness to learn fast).
- Printing fundamentals (drivers, defaults, queues; PaperCut desirable).
- Basic networking (IP/DNS/DHCP, Wi-Fi SSIDs, simple VLAN awareness).
- Familiar with web filtering/monitoring platforms, not essential but can learn
- Comfortable with interactive screens/AV setup and troubleshooting.
- Clear, patient communication; good documentation habits; able to prioritise during busy school days.
