Fruition are recruiting on behalf of an established, multi-sector organisation with operations spanning eCommerce, renewable energy, and business services.
They're looking for an exceptional Head of Software Engineering to lead a high-performing shared engineering function serving multiple business units.
This is a senior leadership role with real strategic influence, you'll set the technical direction, scale the team, and shape how software engineering is done across a diverse and exciting product portfolio. What you'll lead
- A shared engineering function delivering software, automated test engineering, and low-code development across multiple business lines
- A diverse product portfolio, eCommerce platforms, renewable energy control centre solutions, and business applications
- Collaboration with AI, Cloud Infrastructure, and Delivery teams, as well as third-party technology partners
- Strategic adoption of low-code platforms and citizen development practices
Key responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy for software and low-code engineering, aligned to business objectives
- Set OKRs, priorities, and direction for the engineering team
- Build and maintain high-quality, secure, and reliable software at scale
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and platforms
- Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team across multiple locations
- Manage the balance of internal and partner capability to maintain agility
- Drive engineering velocity, quality, and continuous improvement
- Engage senior stakeholders and translate business challenges into deliverables
What we're looking for
- Demonstrable experience establishing and scaling software engineering teams
- Track record leading multi-location teams with permanent, contractor, and consulting resource mixes
- Deep expertise in Scrum/Kanban agile delivery frameworks
- Strong background in CI/CD pipelines and Site Reliability Engineering
- Extensive hands-on experience engineering for Azure
- Experience delivering eCommerce platforms
- Commercial acumen, able to balance customer needs with business priorities
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills at senior level
- Experience with software engineering for 24/7/365 mission-critical systems
