Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Azure
Job Title: Senior Cloud Engineer - Azure
Location: London (hybrid, regular office attendance)
Salary: Competitive
Why Apply?
Join a global professional services organisation as its Senior Cloud Engineer, the technical owner of a global Microsoft Azure platform and the Cloudflare edge in front of it.
This is a hands-on senior role: building new services in code, setting the engineering standards others work to, and making a UK-hosted platform genuinely global. You'll shape the platform behind new AI, data and member-facing services, work alongside a managed-service provider that runs the day-to-day estate, and help move everything towards fully automated, Terraform-defined infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer new services on Azure (landing zones, governance and policy, containers and AKS, and platform services), delivered as code in Terraform using AI-assisted engineering.
- Take existing infrastructure into code, building automated, repeatable environments through CI/CD pipelines.
- Own Azure networking and connectivity: hub-and-spoke, private endpoints and DNS, Firewalling, segmentation and hybrid connectivity.
- Grow the Cloudflare edge from global DNS into WAF, Tunnel, Zero Trust access, Workers and AI Gateway.
- Provide secure hosting and environments for agentic AI platforms, member portals, Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL and ring-fenced AI environments.
- Design backup and disaster recovery, and run regular, evidenced failover tests with the managed-service provider.
- Keep the platform secure and cost-effective: patching, vulnerability management, Defender for Cloud, hardened configuration and right-sizing.
- Set the technical standards the managed-service provider works to, and review its changes and Terraform against them.
- Advise on new cloud technologies and take part in change management.
Key Requirements
- Substantial production experience engineering Microsoft Azure: compute (including VMs and AKS), networking, storage, platform services and governance.
- Strong knowledge of Azure landing zones and the Cloud Adoption Framework, with the judgement to set standards.
- Hands-on Terraform, written from scratch and delivered through CI/CD pipelines, plus strong PowerShell.
- Deep Azure networking skills, plus experience with public DNS and edge security (ideally Cloudflare, or the appetite to learn).
- Backup and DR design and testing (eg Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery), and patch and vulnerability management.
- A solid grasp of cloud security and Azure identity: Defender for Cloud, Entra ID, managed identities, RBAC and privileged access.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- Experience supporting Azure data services (Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, Synapse).
- Using AI coding assistants for Terraform and automation.
- Experience working with managed-service providers and suppliers.
- Familiarity with SharePoint and Power Platform administration.
- Certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-700, AZ-500 or HashiCorp Terraform Associate.
What's in it for me?
- Competitve Salary.
- Hybrid working in a global organisation operating in 120 countries.
- Genuine technical ownership of a global Azure and Cloudflare platform.
- Greenfield work in container strategy, global scaling, DR, Cloudflare Zero Trust and AI hosting.
- Real influence over engineering standards and cloud strategy.
- Professional development, certification and training support.
