Field Engineer – North West England & Mid–North Wales
Overview
Fuel Recruitment is partnering with a leading telecommunications and utilities organisation supporting a critical regional network across the North West and Wales.
We are seeking a Field Engineer to play a key role in the delivery, maintenance, and upgrade of a large-scale operational telecoms network. This is a hands-on, field-based role offering exposure to complex technologies, live environments, and nationally significant infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver project and maintenance activities safely, compliantly, and on schedule across a live telecoms network
- Support Project and Senior Project Managers with scoping, planning, and execution
- Install, configure, commission, and maintain telecoms and network infrastructure
- Diagnose, test, and resolve faults across IP, fibre, and RF systems
- Conduct site surveys and produce technical documentation and handover packs
- Adhere to Health & Safety, RAMS, and site compliance standards at all times
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a field-based telecoms or network engineering role
- Strong IP networking knowledge (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, MPLS/MPLS-TP – CCNA level or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco ASR/ISR desirable)
- Experience working in live/operational environments (e.g. data centres, substations)
- Familiarity with PDH/SDH and Nokia platforms (SAR-H, NMFP)
- Experience with industry-standard testing tools:
- BERT, RF sweeps, PIM, TDR, OTDR, OSCAR
- Full UK driving licence
- SPEN authorisations (highly desirable)

- High standard of technical documentation and attention to detail
- Competent with IT systems (Microsoft Office & mobile applications)
- Strong safety-first mindset with commercial awareness
- Interest in emerging technologies and continuous learning
- Unified Communications experience (nice to have)
