Field Engineer – North West & Wales – Permanent – Salary TBC

Overview

Fuel Recruitment is working with a leading telecommunications and utilities organisation supporting a critical regional network across the North West and Wales. They are looking for a Field Engineer to play a key role in the delivery, maintenance and upgrade of a large-scale operational telecoms network. This is a hands-on, field-based role offering exposure to complex technologies, live environments and nationally significant infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the safe, compliant and on-time delivery of project and maintenance activities across a live telecoms network
  • Assist Project and Senior Project Managers with project scoping, planning and delivery
  • Install, configure, commission and maintain telecoms and network infrastructure to a high standard
  • Carry out fault diagnosis, testing and resolution across IP, fibre and RF systems
  • Complete site surveys, technical documentation and handover packs for completed works
  • Work safely at all times in line with Health & Safety procedures, RAMS and site rules

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven field-based engineering experience within telecommunications or network environments
  • Strong knowledge of IP networking (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, MPLS / MPLS-TP – CCNA level or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with routers, switches and firewalls (Cisco ASR / ISR highly desirable)
  • Experience working in operational environments such as data centres and substations
  • Familiarity with PDH/SDH and Nokia platforms (SAR-H, NMFP)
  • Experience carrying out industry-standard testing (BERT, RF sweeps, PIM, TDR, OTDR, OSCAR)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • SPEN authorisations (highly desirable)

  • Safety-focused mindset with strong compliance and commercial awareness
  • Interest in new technologies and continuous professional development
  • Unified Communications experience (desirable)
