RAN Technical SME

RAN Technical SME (Design & Planning)

London or Reading (hybrid, 2-3 days per week)

£80,000 - £100,000 per annum

We're partnering with a major UK telecommunications provider on a flagship Agentic AI transformation programme. This long-term initiative is focused on transforming how national telecoms infrastructure is designed, configured and operated, moving from manual workflows to Autonomous AI-driven networks.

The Opportunity

As a RAN Technical SME (Design & Planning), you'll move beyond day-to-day network operations and help design the "Brain" of the future Radio Access Network. Working closely with AI Architects and Software Engineers, you'll translate complex RAN design and planning logic into rules that enable Autonomous AI Agents to design, configure and optimise networks with minimal human intervention.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Defining automated HLD and LLD engineering rules so AI can select the correct baseband, radio units and parameters for new builds and upgrades
  • Codifying frequency planning, PCI/scrambling code allocation and neighbour planning logic for autonomous execution
  • Providing deep technical input into NMS and OSS integrations, including APIs, CLI commands and configuration files
  • Working with Data Engineers to identify "Golden Counters", KPIs and PM/FM data, enabling AI-driven validation against 3GPP standards
  • Defining gold-standard NodeB / gNodeB configurations, templates and baselines enforced by the automation platform
  • Acting as the final quality gate for AI-generated designs, validating build sheets and scripts before live network deployment

What We're Looking For

  • Expert-level knowledge of 4G (LTE) and 5G (NR) RAN architecture, 3GPP standards and signalling flows
  • Strong background in RAN planning and design (HLD/LLD), including link budgets, capacity planning and site constraints
  • Experience with industry-standard planning tools such as Asset, Atoll or Planet
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management, CM tools and CLI scripting at scale
  • Deep understanding of radio parameter planning, optimisation and mobility management
  • Ability to document complex RAN logic clearly for software engineers and business analysts
