Network Field Engineer
Primary product focus areas:
Projects across Critical National Infrastructure (Energy, Water, CNI and Blue Light clients)
- Security Portfolio: CCTV, Access Control, Perimeter Detection, Intruder Detection
- LAN Portfolio: Private IP networks, Wireless networks
- WAN Portfolio: Private Mission Critical IP networks, SDH Networks, VPLS/MPLS,
- Cyber Portfolio: IDS, IPS, Firewalling
- Voice portfolio: Hosted and traditional voice offerings
Primary Tasks:
- Commission and test equipment and systems, together with associated interfacing, ensuring accurate and timely completion in accordance with provided documentation
- Configuration, fault-finding and maintenance of third party equipment
- Working to preventive and corrective maintenance plans for existing and new equipment with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Insuring compliance with health & safety strategy. Developing and promoting health & safety amongst colleagues.
- Providing accurate reports against maintenance plans and preparing recommendations for future works.
- Perform out of hours on-call cover
Secondary Tasks:
- Advising and development of proactive/reactive maintenance plans.
- Obtain and maintain technical competence in the systems supported by the business
- Support and advise pre-sales team to respond to RFQs and tenders with accurately pricing
- Providing technical advice on engineering projects.
Overview of role and responsibilities:
The engineer will bring to this position:
- In depth knowledge and experience of Networking technologies including IP networks and optionally SDH, SDN, TDM, DWDM, Microwave or other networking technology.
- Experience in site activities including installing, configuring and commissioning communications and telecoms equipment and services.
- Flexibility in working, including willingness to work and stay away in different regions of the UK and occasionally abroad.
- Excellent customer facing qualities.
- Excellent communicator with strong presentation, numeracy and written skills
- Confidence to work in controlled areas, such as electrical substations.
- Confidence to work with low voltage power systems
- A team player, with the ability to also work unsupervised using their own initiative.
- An aptitude for pragmatic problem solving.
- Willingness to learn and keenness to grow.
- Strong problem-solving abilities; able to facilitate discussions and outcomes
The following would be advantageous:
- Cisco Qualification (CCNA/CCNP etc)
- SC Clearance
- Experience with Cyber Security.
- Electrical '18th Edition' and/or Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations
- Inspection & Testing level 2 certificate (C&G 2392-10)
- Exposure to, and some experience in a diverse range of communication technologies, including at least one of the following: SDN, TDM, DWDM, Microwave radio, Telephony, CCTV or Access Control.
