Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Security Engineer to join the Security team in Manchester. This role is responsible for safeguarding company and customer data, ensuring compliance with security standards, and supporting the organisation’s security posture across global systems.

The successful candidate will act as a key point of contact for security incidents, while also driving the implementation and continuous improvement of security controls and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate existing security controls and identify areas for improvement
  • Design and implement security solutions to mitigate risks
  • Manage and maintain security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, IAM, DLP, endpoint protection, and MDM
  • Respond to and investigate security incidents and events
  • Conduct regular security audits, risk assessments, and vulnerability scans
  • Perform penetration testing and recommend remediation strategies
  • Collaborate with global IT, Cloud, and Security Operations teams
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001, NIST)
  • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Provide security guidance to technical teams and stakeholders
  • Produce security reports for internal and external audiences
  • Recommend and implement new security tools and technologies
  • Stay current with emerging cybersecurity trends and threats

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in Information Security
  • Strong knowledge of security principles, technologies, and best practices
  • Experience with networking, infrastructure (on-premises and cloud), and incident management
  • Hands-on experience with security monitoring tools (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, XDR)
  • Experience with SIEM, CNAPP, and log management platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, Lacework)
  • Experience implementing Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions
  • AWS experience and/or relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Security)
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with network analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark)
  • Understanding of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with integrity and sound judgement
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and within a team

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or Information Security
  • Experience with security frameworks and compliance standards (PCI, ISO, NIST, CIS)
  • Exposure to audits and compliance processes
  • Penetration testing experience
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and systems architecture
  • Experience with threat intelligence
  • Programming or scripting skills
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Experience running phishing simulations or campaigns
