Senior Technical Business Analyst

We are hiring for Senior Technical Business Analyst at Newcastle/Leeds/Birmingham, UK – 3 days per week Onsite

Key Responsibilities

Technical Analysis & Delivery

  • Analyse complex technical and business processes across software, DevOps, security, resilience and platform domains
  • Take ownership of epics and poorly defined backlog items, refining them into delivery-ready features and user stories
  • Define scope, assumptions, constraints, risks and dependencies across multiple technical initiatives
  • Ensure stories meet Definition of Ready and provide continuous clarification during build and test
  • Collaboration with Engineering Teams (Essential)
  • Work day-to-day with software engineers, DevOps engineers, architects and testers
  • Facilitate technical design discussions and ensure shared understanding of requirements and proposed solutions
  • Translate complex technical concepts so they are understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Actively challenge implementation approaches where required, based on user, operational and technical outcomes

Discovery, PoC & Early-Phase Work

  • Support discovery and proof-of-concept activities, including:
  • shaping hypotheses
  • defining success measures
  • identifying technical risks and assumptions
  • Contribute to value cases, benefits mapping, and outcome-based metrics

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage confidently with Product Managers, senior engineers, architects, delivery managers and business stakeholders
  • Balance stakeholder needs with technical feasibility and delivery constraints
  • Operate effectively across multiple initiatives, managing frequent context switching

Essential Skills & Experience

Recent Technical BA Experience

  • Recent (last 2–3 years) experience working directly with software development teams
  • Clear examples of:
  • technical user stories written
  • outcomes delivered (not just responsibilities)
  • systems or platforms worked on

Technical Awareness & Breadth

Experience should include exposure to some of the following:

  • Cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab, Jenkins)
  • Containers & orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • APIs and service-based architectures
  • DevOps ways of working
  • Non-functional requirements (security, resilience, recoverability, testability)

Agile & Lean Delivery

  • Strong Agile mindset with experience working in Scrum / Kanban teams
  • Lean, outcome-focused approach to requirements and scope
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and evolving technical landscapes

Breadth of Experience

  • Demonstrated experience across multiple systems, teams or technical domains
  • Candidates focused narrowly on ERP, single-system implementations or systems integration alone will not be considered

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within UK Government or large, complex enterprises
  • Experience shaping backlogs for newly formed engineering teams
  • Exposure to security, platform or shared services environments
