Mainframe IMS Engineer - Contract - Fully remote

We are seeking a Mainframe IMS Engineer to support enterprise-scale IMS environments. This role involves delivering product upgrades, configuration, database management, and performance tuning within a complex z/OS landscape.

Responsibilities

• Install, upgrade, and maintain IMS software (including usermods, RSUs, and feature enhancements).
• Configure and administer IMS/TM, IMS/DB, and connectivity with CICS, DB2, and MQ.
• Define and maintain IMS databases (DBDs, PSBs, DL/I utilities).
• Support system upgrades using SMP/E and z/OSMF.
• Tune IMS performance: buffer pools, logging, threading, and transaction throughput.
• Troubleshoot transaction failures, lock contention, and communication issues.
• Manage backup/recovery strategies and IMS restarts.
• Document runbooks, architecture diagrams, and change-control records.
• Collaborate closely with developers, DBAs, and infrastructure teams.

Experience

• Extensive IMS engineering experience in enterprise Mainframe environments.
• Strong expertise in IMS/TM, IMS/DB, and z/OS system integration.
• Skilled in Cobol, Assembler exits, REXX Scripting, and automation.
• Proven experience with CICS configuration, subsystem connectivity, and SMP/E maintenance.
