Apprentice Toolmaker 57-1438

The candidate will be responsible for the manufacture, repair & modification of tooling (plastic injection & Zinc die cast tools) in line with customer requirements to support business objectives. The candidate will work on multiple phases or sub-tasks of the project using various machinery onsite.

Role

Role & responsibilities

  • Manual machining – milling, surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, Radial Arm drill
  • CNC machining / programming – 3 axis & 5 axis machines, CNC Lathes
  • EDM – spark erosion & wire erosion
  • Read, understand & interpret engineering drawings correctly
  • Occasional problem solving, repair, maintenance, and modification of existing tools
  • Comply with all process work instructions, control plans, maintenance, and safety schedules
  • Ensure that your work area(s) are always kept clean and tidy
  • Final assembly activities and processes for new tooling
  • Comply with all corporate and local site Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Good PC skills
  • Use of all measuring equipment & CMM’s

Training

You will study on a Level 3 Machining Technician Standard. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3:

  • EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

  • Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide
