Backend / Full Stack Engineer (Tech Lead Opportunity)

I’m exclusively supporting a West Midlands-based engineering business who design and build a physical product - now looking to strengthen their software capability.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys seeing their code have a real-world impact, supporting fleet operations and system performance.

You’ll be responsible for backend and data architecture, working closely with customers, and helping shape the direction of the software function - including leading a small team.

What you’ll be doing:

• Leading backend and data architecture development

• Building and maintaining APIs and scalable systems

• Working closely with customers to understand real-world use cases

• Supporting performance, reliability, and fleet-level software

• Contributing to and mentoring a growing team

Tech stack / experience:

Frontend:

• React

• JavaScript

• HTML5 / CSS3

Backend:

• Node.js

• REST / Web APIs

Database:

• SQL Server

Cloud / Infrastructure:

• AWS

Tools:

• VS Code

• JSON

What they’re looking for:

• Experience working on software for physical products (EV, hardware, Energy, Fleet or engineering-led environments)

• Previous experience leading or mentoring a small team - essential!

• Strong backend and data experience, with some frontend exposure

• Degree in Software Engineering / Computer Science (preferred)

• Must be a UK citizen or hold ILR

• West Midlands-based role
