Founding Engineer

Company Description

Galveston builds intelligence infrastructure for institutional capital. Our platform, Mithril, maps geopolitical risk to portfolio exposure in real time serving sovereign wealth funds, private banks, and asset managers who need to understand what’s happening in the world before it hits their positions.
We work with some of the largest financial institutions in the world. The problems we solve are hard, consequential, and largely unsolved by existing tools.
We are looking for a Founding Engineer who builds.

The Role

You will be the first engineering hire. You will own the technical architecture and delivery of the Mithril platform alongside the founding team. This is not a support role. You will make decisions that define the product for years to come.

Day to day, this means:

∙ Designing and building the core intelligence graph — a knowledge architecture that models causal relationships between geopolitical events and financial exposures
Building real-time data ingestion and processing pipelines across geopolitical, financial, and alternative data sources
Architecting AI agent systems that surface actionable intelligence from unstructured information
Delivering software that meets the security, reliability, and compliance standards expected by banks and sovereign institutions
Eventually helping to hire and lead a small engineering team that prioritises output over headcount

What Matters

We do not care about your degree, your alma mater, or your previous job titles.
We care about:

What you’ve built. Products, systems, infrastructure — something that works in the real world, not a thesis.
Technical range. The platform spans graph databases, real-time pipelines, LLM orchestration, and institutional-grade frontend. You don’t need to be an expert in all of these, but you need to learn fast and build across them.
Judgement under constraints. We operate with a small team against large problems. You’ll make decisions with imperfect information, and you’ll need to be right more often than not.
Comfort with institutional clients. Our users are portfolio managers and risk analysts at serious financial institutions. You’ll be in the room with them. The software has to work, and you have to be able to explain it.

The Stack

∙ Neo4j — the intelligence graph is the core of the product
∙ Python / Node.js
∙ React
∙ LLM orchestration and custom agent frameworks
∙ Cloud-native infrastructure built to institutional security standards
