EV Propulsion Integration Engineer – PiL / ViL Validation

EV Propulsion Integration Engineer – PiL / ViL Validation

Location: Gaydon

Sector: Automotive | Electrification | Propulsion Integration

Engagement: Contract

Client: Leading Global OEM

Electrification programmes live or die on integration discipline. This role sits at that fault line.

We are supporting a leading OEM in Gaydon seeking an EV Propulsion Integration Engineer to lead validation through PiL and ViL environments, drive DV execution and resolve system level issues with structured engineering logic. This is hands on, data driven integration work across HV systems, EDUs and battery.

If you are fluent in first principles and not just dashboards, read on.

The Role

You will take ownership of validation, integration and verification activities for BEV propulsion systems, ensuring the complete system performs, complies and behaves as intended in vehicle.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and execute robust PiL and ViL test plans aligned to vehicle DV requirements.
  2. Lead validation and integration of HV power systems, EDUs and battery systems within vehicle architecture.
  3. Analyse rig and vehicle test data to identify performance gaps, failure modes and optimisation opportunities.
  4. Drive structured 8D problem solving for propulsion related issues, ensuring root cause and permanent corrective action.
  5. Support system architecture integration, working across hardware, software and calibration domains.
  6. Collaborate with software and controls engineers to refine calibration, VSC strategies and sensor control logic.
  7. Participate in design reviews, providing evidence based technical feedback and risk assessment.
  8. Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory and functional safety requirements across HV systems.
  9. Contribute to DOE definition and execution to accelerate system understanding and robustness.
  10. Support vehicle DV planning and execution, ensuring propulsion readiness at gateway milestones.

Technical Scope

You will operate across:

  • BEV propulsion systems and HV architectures
  • Electric Drive Units and inverter systems
  • Battery integration and system interaction
  • PiL and ViL environments
  • Rig based validation and data interrogation
  • Calibration, VSC strategies and control system behaviour

Your Profile

Essential Experience

  1. Strong experience in BEV propulsion systems with solid understanding of high voltage systems and safety protocols.
  2. Proven delivery of PiL and ViL testing, verification and validation activities.
  3. Competence in test planning aligned to industry standards and DV processes.
  4. Experience analysing rig and vehicle data to derive engineering insight and corrective action.
  5. Knowledge of safety functionality and compliance within HV propulsion systems.
  6. Understanding of VSC strategies, calibration methodologies and sensor control logic.
  7. Demonstrable application of structured problem solving, ideally 8D.
  8. Ability to translate first principles into practical validation strategy.
  9. Comfortable operating across hardware and software integration boundaries.
  10. Clear technical communication within cross functional engineering teams.

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • Exposure to AVL or Horiba test rigs.
  • Working knowledge of JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience contributing to new EV propulsion technology development.
