Director of Ecommerce & AI Transformation

We are seeking a forward-thinking Director of Ecommerce & AI Transformation to lead the evolution of our ecommerce channel and spearhead the strategic adoption of AI across the business. This role is responsible for driving online revenue growth while implementing intelligent, data-driven capabilities that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and commercial performance.

The successful candidate will own the ecommerce development roadmap, optimise digital trading performance, and deliver AI-powered innovations across merchandising, marketing, content, search, personalisation, and customer operations. This is a pivotal leadership role that combines commercial responsibility with advanced technology enablement.

Key Responsibilities

Ecommerce Leadership

  • Develop our Ecommerce capabilities to support sustained revenue and margin growth.
  • Lead onsite experience, digital trading, merchandising, conversion rate optimisation (CRO), search & navigation, and content strategy.
  • Shape and deliver the ecommerce roadmap, ensuring the platform continuously evolves to meet customer needs and outperform competitors.
  • Oversee day-to-day site performance, ensuring robustness, speed, usability, and commercial effectiveness.

AI Transformation & Digital Innovation

  • Develop the company’s AI transformation strategy for ecommerce and associated business functions.
  • Lead the deployment of AI-enhanced capabilities such as:
  • Personalised journeys and recommendations
  • Predictive merchandising and demand modelling
  • Second hand trade-in
  • Automated content generation and enrichment
  • Intelligent search and discovery
  • Customer service AI tools (chatbots, agent assist, workflow automation)
  • Identify opportunities to embed automation in internal workflows across ecommerce, operations, buying & merchandising, and customer service.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Work closely with Engineering, Data, Marketing, Operations, and Product teams to deliver AI-enhanced features and digital improvements.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategies that blend commercial priorities with scalable technology adoption.
  • Manage external partners, vendors, and AI solution providers where appropriate.

Data & Performance

  • Establish a data-driven culture of experimentation and continuous optimisation.
  • Own ecommerce analytics, dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting.
  • Ensure all AI initiatives adhere to ethical, privacy, and governance standards.

Strategic leadership and influence

  • Lead, inspire, and develop team members across ecommerce trading, optimisation, and digital innovation.
  • Build capabilities in AI utilisation, automation, data literacy, and advanced digital practices.

Skills and Experience

Essentials

  • Proven leadership in ecommerce within a high-growth or high-scale retail/digital environment.
  • Strong track record delivering online revenue growth and digital optimisation.
  • Hands-on experience implementing AI-powered tools or leading digital transformation initiatives.
  • Excellent understanding of ecommerce systems, analytics, CRO, and merchandising.
  • Ability to translate commercial goals into actionable AI and digital strategies.
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience working with bespoke or complex ecommerce platforms.
  • Familiarity with LLMs, ML models, recommendation engines, or automation frameworks.
  • Previous involvement in large-scale digital transformation programmes.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across commercial and technical domains
