Senior Golang Engineer
International Payments Start-Up | London (5 days a week in office)
We’re partnering with a fast-growing international payments start-up on the search for a Golang Backend Engineer to join their London team. This is a strong opportunity to work on backend reliability, money movement, and correctness at a business scaling globally — with real ownership and visibility across the product and commercial teams.
This role is fully office-based, 5 days a week in London, working closely with payments, compliance, risk, and engineering leadership.
The Role
As a Golang Backend Engineer, you’ll build and operate core services that power payment flows end-to-end. You’ll be hands-on across design, delivery, and production reliability in a regulated environment where robustness and accuracy matter.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building high-quality backend services in Golang supporting payments and ledger-like workflows
- Owning reliability, monitoring, and operational excellence for critical payment systems
- Designing and improving services for money movement, reconciliation, and correctness
- Working on AWS-native infrastructure (e.g., compute, storage, messaging, observability)
- Collaborating with compliance, risk, ops, and commercial teams to ship safely in a regulated setting
- Improving performance, resilience, and scalability as transaction volume grows
- Contributing to engineering standards, reviews, and best practice across the backend platform
About You
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a high-ownership, in-office start-up environment and can deliver production-grade backend systems.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong commercial experience building backend systems in Golang
- Solid AWS experience in production (designing, deploying, and operating services)
- Exposure to payments / fintech / financial services, especially money movement and transaction workflows
- A mindset for correctness, reliability, and clean engineering (testing, observability, incident response)
- Confidence working with cross-functional stakeholders in a regulated environment
- Willingness to work 5 days per week from the London office
Why Join?
- Join an ambitious international payments start-up at a key growth stage
- Work on high-impact systems where correctness matters (real money, real customers)
- Collaborative, in-person culture with senior stakeholder exposure
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Strong long-term progression as the business scales
