  • An exciting opportunity has risen at the George Eliot Hospital trust vaccination Centre, for a registered Nurse, preferably with up-to-date immunisation experience. To work as part of a dynamic team to provide a safe and efficient service for the delivery of vaccinations across the trust.
  • The post holder will support the vaccine lead with improving the uptake rate and safe delivery of the vaccination Programme within the hospital setting, contributing towards the public health agenda by improving health outcomes for staff and patients.
  • We welcome applications from Health professionals who are passionate about public health.
  • The vaccine centre is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7:30 to 18:00 and Tuesday and Thursdays 7:30 to 15:30.

Main duties of the job

  • Applicants should be well organised with excellent communication Skills and good IT skills.
  • To deliver vaccines across the Trust site to maternity, occupational Health and seasonal Vaccine clinics (to include covid and flu).
  • Follow Patient Group Directions (PGD) Patient Specific Directions, (PSD) and standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Effectively use IT support systems to enhance direct and indirect care delivery and to scope and implement paperless service.
  • Ensure they are up to date with any changes to practice and procedures (PGD, Green Book and National guidance).
  • Work with Pharmacy to ensure adequate vaccine stock is available, and vaccine cold chain policy is adhered to, to ensure safe storage, administration and disposal of the vaccines.
  • Ensure clinic rooms and equipment within own area are prepared and sufficient stock of clinic supplies are available.

Job responsibilities

Communication Skills and Working Relationships

  • Work with vaccination lead to plan, communicate, promote and conduct clinical assessments and vaccination delivery in various GEH vaccination clinic settings.
  • Maintain a good standard of communication with the multi-disciplinary team and respect the confidentiality of patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Recognise and manage barriers to communication to enable the post holder to effectively help and support staff and patients.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex information effectively with ward / department staff when delivering vaccination sessions.
  • Support the vaccination team by providing and sharing feedback, sharing decision making, planning work and assisting with audits.
  • Report any adverse reactions or concerns to senior team members.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous documentation to ensure timely and effective.
  • Have good communication skills and use empathy and reassurance where there are significant barriers to understanding.
  • Demonstrate Trust values and challenge any non-compliance if witnessed.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential
  • 6 Months post registration experience
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work well as a team member
  • Demonstrates initiative and potential ability to work without direct supervision, problem solve and prioritise own work. Demonstrates potential to develop planning and organisational skills
  • Able to make judgements based on evidence-based practice and translate this for use in the work environment
Desirable
  • Experience of delivering vaccinations (eg Practice nurse, Travel vaccine nurse, OH nurse, School based vaccine team)
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility dependent upon work priorities
  • To be able to demonstrate understanding of current developments in the NHS and their implications for nursing and quality care for clients'/service users
  • Ability to practice independently, ability to take responsibility and show evidence of leadership skills

Qualification(s) and Professional Training

Essential
  • Registered Nurse level 1
Desirable
  • Evidence of continuing professional development within the last 12 months ( Immunisation modules, travel vaccine qualification)
  • Hold/be working towards an 'NMC approved' mentoring qualification or have a planned start date for this

Skills and Abilities

Essential
  • Safe use and disposal of sharps
  • Transport of Vaccine equipment when roaming around hospital during seasonal vaccination programmes
Desirable
  • Ability to competently handle, prepare and administer vaccinations efficiently
  • Good IT skills and understanding of different Vaccine systems ( RAVS, Badger, Cority)

Personal Qualities

Essential
  • Physically capable of performing the role and responsibilities expected of the post holder
Desirable
  • Interest in public Health
