Audio / Video and Home Automation Engineer

An established and growing Home and Venue Technology Integrator is looking for an experienced Home Automation / Audio Video Engineer to join its team in Glasgow.

The role would suit someone with existing experience in AV, smart home technology, electrical, networking or control systems, who is looking to develop their skills and build a long-term career within the industry.

So, what will you be doing

As a Home Automation / AV Engineer, you’ll be right at the heart of the operation – installing, commissioning, supporting and maintaining technology in some fantastic homes and venues across Scotland.

No two projects are quite the same. One day you might be installing a high-end Hi-Fi system from world-renowned brands such as Linn, while the next could see you commissioning a Bang and Olufsen audio system or Home Cinema. Another project might challenge your technical skills with a Control4 Smart Home, working with automation products like Lutron lighting and blinds, building networks, or getting to the bottom of a particularly stubborn technical problem!

You’ll work both independently and alongside the wider team, taking responsibility for delivering installations to a high standard and making sure the finished system is something both you and the customer can be proud of.

Just as importantly, you’ll be dealing directly with customers. The role needs someone who can explain technology without making it complicated, build a good relationship with the people they’re working for and make the whole experience enjoyable.

Nobody is expected to know everything. You’ll have the support of an experienced team around you, along with ongoing manufacturer and industry training to help you continue developing your skills and career.

So, what are they looking for

The ideal candidate will already have experience in a technical or installation-based role and be ready to bring those skills into a new team.

You’ll ideally have experience or a good working knowledge of one or more of the following:

• Home automation or control systems such as Control4, Crestron, Lutron or KNX.
• Audio visual systems, including distributed audio, video and Home Cinema.
• TCP / IP networking, Wi-Fi and structured cabling.
• Electrical, security or other related technical installation work.
• Using hand and power tools and working safely and professionally on site.
• Qualifications such as Cisco CCNA, BS 7671 18th Edition, PASMA, CSCS or relevant manufacturer certifications would be welcomed, but they’re certainly not essential.

Technical ability is only part of it. The role would suit someone who is enthusiastic, practical and enjoys solving problems, someone who takes pride in doing things properly, works well as part of a team and is comfortable dealing directly with customers.

You’ll need to be reliable, organised and attentive to detail, with a willingness to keep learning as technology develops.

A full UK driving licence is essential, and you’ll need to be comfortable travelling for projects and training, including occasional overnight stays.
