Senior Devops Engineer
The Senior DevOps Engineer leads the design and implementation of advanced DevOps practices and infrastructure solutions. They mentor other DevOps Engineers and collaborate with technical teams to deliver highly automated, secure, and scalable platforms that support software delivery at pace.
Key Responsibilities:
Take an active role in defining and delivering platform improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, scalability, and developer experience. Lead the promotion and adoption of DevOps best practices across teams, sharing expertise to influence engineering standards and practices.
Participate in evaluating the technical and operational feasibility of proposed platform or process improvements. Work with stakeholders to assess risks, benefits, and resource requirements, contributing insights that help shape decision-making and prioritisation.
Lead the design, development, and optimisation of advanced CI/CD pipelines that meet the evolving needs of multiple development teams. Ensure pipelines are secure, efficient, and reliable, and promote automation of testing, security checks, and deployment across environments.
Provide technical leadership in implementing and maintaining infrastructure as code solutions using Terraform, Ansible, and Helm. Ensure infrastructure is defined in a repeatable, version-controlled, and auditable manner, and mentor others in best practices for managing cloud and on-premise environments.
Lead the design and implementation of automation strategies that enable consistent environment provisioning, application deployment, and system observability. Ensure that automated solutions improve speed, reliability, and operational visibility across the full software delivery lifecycle.
Take ownership of incident management, leading the coordination of response activities to restore service quickly. Facilitate post-incident reviews to identify root causes, document learnings, and drive corrective actions that prevent recurrence and improve platform resilience.
Establish and manage service monitoring, alerting, and error budget practices in collaboration with stakeholders. Define service level objectives (SLOs) and ensure that monitoring frameworks provide actionable insights to maintain platform availability and performance.
Champion secure and risk-aware change management practices, ensuring that changes are reviewed, tested, and implemented in line with governance requirements. Guide teams in following established change control procedures while enabling efficient and reliable delivery.
Collaborate with software engineering, IT operations, and security teams to define and deliver robust technical solutions. Act as a trusted advisor, balancing operational, security, and development needs to achieve optimal outcomes.
Lead the integration of security controls and checks into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring that security is embedded throughout the software delivery lifecycle. Collaborate with security and compliance teams to manage vulnerabilities and enforce secure coding and deployment practices.
Lead technical risk assessments to evaluate platform and pipeline vulnerabilities. Support internal and external audits, ensuring that systems and processes meet regulatory, security, and organisational compliance requirements.
Lead continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing platform reliability, delivery speed, and developer experience. Facilitate retrospectives and improvement reviews to capture feedback and implement changes that increase team and platform performance.
Own and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system architecture, operational procedures, and deployment runbooks. Ensure documentation is accessible, accurate, and kept up-to-date to support transparency and knowledge sharing.
Establish meaningful operational and delivery metrics such as deployment frequency, system reliability, and incident response times. Provide regular reporting to stakeholders to inform decision-making and continuous improvement priorities.
Provide technical mentorship and support to DevOps Engineers, helping them develop their technical and professional skills. Lead knowledge-sharing sessions, code reviews, and pairing activities to build capability and promote a culture of continuous learning.
