Job description - Finance Assistant
The team is looking for a Finance Assistant to support the business, gaining an entire overview of the finance function. This role is ideal for someone looking to start their career in finance. It's a broad position offering exposure to every element of the finance function, and it's perfectly suited to someone beginning their professional exams - you'll be turning your study knowledge into real, hands-on experience from day one.

Here you will also gain the opportunity to study towards professional accountancy qualifications (ACCA/CIMA), supported by the company. Due to the nature of working in a small team, you will get exposure to multiple aspects of the finance function that aren't part of your day-to-day role, as well as the wider business. Key responsibilities - Finance Assistant
In this Graduate Finance Assistant job, your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, from raising invoices and processing supplier bills through to chasing and clearing outstanding balances.
  • Run weekly payment cycles, ensuring every payment is accurate, approved and on time.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies without delay.
  • Deliver core month-end tasks for the management accounts — journals, accruals and prepayments — to strict deadlines.
  • Prepare VAT returns and other statutory and internal reporting.
  • Keep Xero accurate and up to date, owning your allocated balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Resolve finance queries from colleagues, customers and suppliers as a trusted first point of contact.
  • Deliver your part of the month-end and year-end close on schedule, every time.
  • Drive improvements and automation across finance processes as the business grows.
  • Take on ad-hoc projects and analysis, building breadth across the whole finance function.

Job requirements - Finance Assistant

  • A minimum of a 2.1 degree in Accounting & Finance or other relevant subject
  • Good understanding of Excel, including VLOOKUPs, SUMIFS and Pivot Tables
  • Started (or ready to start) a professional accounting qualification - they'll support you through your studies.
  • Finance internship or placement experience is a bonus, but not essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in everything you do.
  • Proactive, with strong problem-solving skills - you work autonomously and are comfortable setting your own priorities.
  • Ambitious - keen to build on your experience and take on broader ownership over time.
