Job Title: Head of Ecommerce
Location: Birmingham
Salary: up to £70,000 (DOE) + Bonus
Contract: Permanent, Full time, 4 days in office 1 day from home
Start date: July - September 2025
The Role
We are working with a high-growth retail business seeking a Head of Ecommerce to lead the development and execution of its digital trading strategy. Based in Birmingham with hybrid working flexibility, this senior-level opportunity will suit an experienced digital leader looking to drive profitable online sales across established UK and European markets.
This is a commercially focused role with full ownership of the online customer journey, conversion optimisation, and the identification of new growth initiatives. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across performance marketing, UX, product, and operations, with a clear remit to scale digital revenue and shape the future of online trading.
This is a highly visible position, reporting to the board, and offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the business's next phase of growth.
Key Requirements
- Develop and implement a commercially sound e-commerce strategy to deliver sustainable revenue growth
- Champion a seamless customer experience, with focus on UX, checkout optimisation, and conversion rate improvements
- Identify and deliver new initiatives such as loyalty programmes, affiliate schemes, and customer referral incentives
- Own e-commerce KPIs and use data analytics (including GA4) to guide decisions and optimise performance
- Work collaboratively with internal teams across PPC/SEO, supply chain, finance, and product to align digital initiatives
- Lead A/B and multivariate testing programmes to foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Support international expansion with consideration of localisation and cross-border trading requirements
- Oversee and refine the end-to-end customer journey across desktop, mobile, and tablet experiences
- Manage and grow a high-performing e-commerce team, including hiring, coaching and setting KPIs
- Ensure commercial targets are set and met, with full ownership of e-commerce P&L performance
Candidate Criteria
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior e-commerce leadership role with a track record of delivering commercial success
- Strong understanding of e-commerce platforms, site optimisation, mobile commerce, and UX best practices
- Confident in using data and performance metrics to drive decision-making and identify growth opportunities
- Experience managing and scaling digital teams in a fast-paced, retail-focused environment
- Demonstrable experience owning and delivering against a full e-commerce P&L
- Proficient in GA4 and other digital analytics tools
- Highly collaborative approach with excellent communication skills across tech, finance, marketing, and product functions
- Experience launching new features and campaigns such as referral schemes, loyalty programmes, or personalisation initiatives
- Previous exposure to international e-commerce and digital localisation is desirable
- Must be located within commuting distance to Birmingham; this role requires regular presence in the office with hybrid flexibility
