Senior PHP Developer

About The Role

Go Car Credit is a specialist motor finance lender supporting those with less than perfect credit scores to get behind the wheel. Our hire purchase deals don’t just get people a great car – they give people the chance to rebuild their credit score too.

To support strategic growth, we’re looking to build out our in-house engineering team and are looking for a Senior-Level Software Engineer to support the next phase of platform growth and modernisation.

You will be joining the Business Change team during a time of major in-house technology buildout, where you will have real ownership and help to shape the future business critical platform!

Working hours are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, however due to the level of the role we would expect some flexibility.

Responsibilities

You’ll be working on a high-volume application platform primarily built in Laravel, contributing to new feature development, platform improvements, APIs, integrations, and ongoing modernisation work.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll work closely with the Technical Lead and wider team to improve scalability, reliability, and overall platform quality.

• Developing features across a Laravel-based platform
• Working on APIs, integrations, and backend services
• Supporting improvements to performance, scalability, and reliability
• Collaborating with the Technical Lead, external developers, and stakeholders
• Contributing to code quality improvements and platform modernisation
• Troubleshooting issues and supporting production stability

What you need

• Commercial experience with PHP, Laravel, and MySQL
• Experience building APIs and backend systems
• Understanding of modern development practices
• Exposure to AWS or cloud-hosted environments
• A proactive mindset and willingness to improve systems
