  • Job Title: Data Engineer
  • Type: 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract, Permanent & Hybrid
  • Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 depending on experience
  • Location: LondonEnergy EcoPark, Edmonton

About LondonEnergy:

LondonEnergy operates the second largest waste contract in the UK, handling and processing nearly 750,000 tonnes of London's waste every year. We have a dedicated team of people working across our various North London sites, making a positive difference to the environment and the local community.

By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.

About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineer to design, implement, and maintain scalable data and analytics architecture solutions that support our business intelligence, analytics, and operational data needs.

This role is critical in shaping LondonEnergy's data and analytics strategy, ensuring the integrity, availability, quality, and security of our data assets. You will play a key role in establishing robust data foundations and delivering the capabilities required to move the organisation to its next stage of data maturity.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, focused on building and embedding the data platforms, pipelines, and governance needed to get LondonEnergy to where it needs to be from a data perspective.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage closely with the Data & Analytics Manager, technical teams, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure data is standardised, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.
  • Act as a key liaison between system implementation teams, technical reporting, analytics development, and business users.
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure data and analytics architectures across cloud environments, primarily using Microsoft Azure and Fabric.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on data and analytics architecture best practices, including the use of AI to automate data management and processing.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise data models, master data management (MDM), and data governance frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance and data consistency.
  • Build, optimise, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes, improving reliability, performance, and data quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement by monitoring tool usage, recommending new technologies, and helping shape the roadmap for future enhancements, training, and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, with 5+ years' experience in data engineering, data architecture, or similar roles.
  • Proven hands-on experience with cloud data platforms and data warehousing, including strong development experience using Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Strong technical proficiency in SQL, Python, and modern data modelling techniques.
  • Solid understanding of data governance, security, compliance, and best practices for managing enterprise data assets.
  • Experience with master data management (MDM) and data cataloguing tools.
  • Knowledge or experience in AI solution architecture is a significant advantage; data architecture or data management certifications (e.g. TOGAF, DAMA) are desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a low data maturity environment and lead others through change.

Benefits

  • Private Medical & Life Insurance
  • Company Pension Scheme
  • Annual Leave Package
  • Employee Recognition Scheme
  • Access to Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • + Many more benefits
