Senior Windows Engineer

Head of Windows Engineering / London or New York

  • Fed up with legacy technical debt?
  • An active directory that is like the back of the office fridge (stuff in there from years ago, nobody knows who it belongs to or is brave enough to chuck away).
  • A desire to build rather than maintain
  • Or maybe you’ve sorted out all the problems and need a new challenge

If so, this role is for you. We are working with a systematic hedge fund seeking a Lead Windows Engineer to design and build the organisation’s Windows infrastructure from the ground up.

This is a rare opportunity to own the Windows platform architecture and play a key role in designing and implementing the core infrastructure that supports trading, research and operations systems.

You will lead the development of a secure, scalable and highly automated Windows environment, spanning on-premise and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, implementation and ongoing management of enterprise Windows infrastructure
  • Design and deploy core services including Active Directory, identity management and enterprise authentication
  • Build and maintain the firm’s Windows Server environment across on-prem and cloud platforms
  • Develop automation frameworks using PowerShell and infrastructure-as-code tooling
  • Implement security controls, patching, monitoring and configuration management
  • Partner with engineering, trading, operations and security teams to deliver a reliable platform
  • Integrate infrastructure with trading systems, internal applications and external vendors
  • Define infrastructure standards, documentation and operational best practices
  • Infrastructure engineers are responsible for designing and maintaining the foundational systems that support business operations and applications across the organisation.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in enterprise Windows infrastructure engineering
  • Strong expertise with Windows Server environments and enterprise architecture
  • Deep knowledge of Active Directory, identity services and Group Policy
  • Experience managing authentication and directory services that control access across corporate systems.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell
  • Experience supporting virtualisation platforms (VMware / Hyper-V) and hybrid infrastructure
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
  • Experience implementing monitoring, patching and configuration management frameworks
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across complex enterprise systems
  • Experience in hedge funds, trading firms or financial services environments is highly desirable.
