Senior Back End Engineer (Contract)

We're working with a technology-led company building a modern enterprise platform used by large organisations. The product replaces legacy systems with scalable, secure, and reliable software.

This is an 8-week contract, outside IR35, fully remote, open to UK & EU-based engineers, paying £400 per day and starting immediately.

The Role

You'll be responsible for key backend systems that support enterprise, multi-user workflows, with a strong focus on scalability, security, and reliability.

You'll work closely with internal product and engineering stakeholders to turn evolving requirements into robust, production-ready systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain secure, multi-user backend services
• Implement role-based access control, audit logging, and data integrity controls
• Design and scale high-concurrency GraphQL APIs
• Develop event-driven systems
• Ensure systems are observable, resilient, and cloud-ready
• Contribute to architecture decisions, documentation, and best practices

Requirements

• Strong experience building enterprise-grade backend systems
• Proven ability to design for scale, security, and reliability
• Solid understanding of APIs, authentication, concurrency, and data integrity
• Experience shipping systems used in real, multi-user environments
• Comfortable working with incomplete requirements and tight timelines
• Clear, concise communicator in async teams
