PMO Analyst

A programme board is only as good as the pack in front of it. This role makes the pack true.

You will run the planning, reporting and control infrastructure that senior decisions depend on, in a small team on a major central government transformation programme, close enough to the detail to notice when reported status and actual status have drifted apart.

What you will actually do
  • Keep plans, actions, risks, issues and dependency registers current and trusted, so nobody maintains a private version alongside them
  • Produce governance packs and dashboards senior readers can act on without needing a verbal explanation
  • Track milestones and performance against plan, and flag divergence early rather than after the event
  • Run the governance calendar so forums have the right people, the right papers and a decision to make
  • Chase actions and decisions to closure, which mostly means being politely persistent with people busier than you
  • Support resource planning and financial tracking with numbers that reconcile
  • Improve the reporting process where it generates effort out of proportion to its value
  • Spot the pattern in the data. Someone who notices that three workstreams have quietly moved the same milestone is worth several who merely record it
Where the role sits

Reporting to the engagement lead and working most closely with the Programme Integration Lead, who is the principal consumer of what you produce. This is a hands-on role in a small team, not a supervisory one.

What we are looking for

Experience in a PMO or programme support function on a substantial programme, with the analytical ability to read a plan critically rather than only maintain one. Comfort with data that arrives inconsistent and needs reconciling. Advanced Excel expected, and confident production of governance material.

Power BI, Tableau or equivalent is a strong plus. So is the willingness to tell a Manager their milestone date is not credible.

Useful but not essential: public sector programme experience, financial forecasting on a programme budget, PRINCE2, APM PMQ or P3O.
