ICT Senior Database Administrator
Job summary
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced ICT Senior Database Administrator to join our ICT team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in maintaining and developing the database platforms that support critical clinical and non-clinical services across one of the world's leading children's hospitals. In this role, you will help ensure that our database environments remain secure, resilient, high performing and fit for the future.
As ICT Senior Database Administrator, you will work within a highly specialist environment, supporting a large and diverse estate of SQL Server and other database technologies that underpin essential Trust systems.
This permanent role is based at Great Ormond Street Hospital in central London and is offered at Agenda for Change Band 8a, 37.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
o Maintain the availability, performance and security of Trust database platforms that support clinical and non-clinical applications.o Provide expert administration of SQL Server environments and other relational database management systems.o Lead on database backup, recovery, patching and resilience to ensure service continuity and compliance with service expectations.o Troubleshoot complex database issues and work closely with internal teams and third-party suppliers to deliver timely resolutions.o Support database-related projects, system improvements and operational performance initiatives across the Trust.o Promote best practice in database usage, security and governance with technical teams and business stakeholders.o Help ensure that data is accessible only to appropriately authorised personnel.

Person Specification
Academic/Professional qualification/Training
- Educated to degree level, or equivalent (i.e. extensive experience in senior DBA role)
- MS SQL DBA Qualification
- ITIL Foundation Qualification
- Professional membership (BCS or UKCHIP minimum level 2)
- Prince 2 Foundation qualification

Experience/Knowledge
- Minimum 5 years technical DBA experience gained within a busy IT Operations department
- Experience of troubleshooting technical and performance problems with SQL Server architectures
- Experience of troubleshooting technical and performance problems with other RDBMS architectures
- Demonstrable experience porting data from different environments to SQL Clusters (i.e. MS Access, Oracle, etc.)
- Significant demonstrable experience in a role that required the day-to-day line management including management to and enforcement of SLAs
- Demonstrable knowledge of an environment that utilised the technologies below: SSRS SSIS HA SQL Server clusters
- Experience of working in the NHS
- Experience of project work using the industry recognised methodologies such as Prince2 or ITIL
- Significant demonstrable experience in a role that utilised the ITIL framework in the delivery of service.
- Experience of configuring and managing SQL in a public cloud platform such as AWS or Azure

- Strong negotiating and influencing skills - able to work positively as a team manager
- Highly articulate - particularly able to express technical ideas to a non-technical audience
- Strong written skills
- Ability to reprioritise work streams as required by unexpected events
- Ability to translate user / business requirements into technical plans / proposals
- Technical expertise in all the core areas covered by the department
