Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Application Analyst to join the Clinical Applications team within the IT department at the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The team are responsible for managing and supporting the key clinical IT applications Trust wide.

Working within a close and supportive IT team the successful candidate will provide IT support to a multi-disciplinary range of IT users across the Trust. The role will involve dealing reactively with IT issues as they arise as well as proactively working with clinical and non-clinical IT users to gather their IT requirements, undertake system configurations and development, and assist with end user Training, ensuring optimum use of the clinical systems for the benefit of patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Post holder will provide a dedicated IT support service includingdetailed analysis and problem-solving for issues relating to the key Clinical IT Applications and their use within the Trust. Working with the hospital's user community the post holder will define and develop software tailoring requirements and screen flows, provide support and advice, and training as necessary, to ensure optimum use of the key Clinical Applications. Participation in a range of project related activities, relating to key Clinical Applications, is a key requirement of the role.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have responsibilities in the following areas:-

To develop and maintain a good understanding of the processes and system requirements of the main hospital areas covered by the key Clinical Applications, ensuring the systems are deployed in a manner that allows for optimal, effective and efficient use to support the patient care pathway.

To undergo comprehensive training and act as an expert user acting as a focal point for issues relating to key Clinical Applications usage

To provide 2nd line support, using the Trusts IT call logging system, to manage the resolution of user issues relating to the key Clinical Applications, liaising with System Suppliers as necessary

Active monitoring and maintenance of key Clinical Applications and interfaces to ensure users have seamless access to clinical systems

Responsibility for monitoring and ensuring system compliance with local and national directives, e.g. Information Standards Notification (ISNs) from the Department of Health

Accurate production of output reports from key Clinical Applications. This could be from any Clinical system and may encompass Medical Legal litigation claims or audits as required

To undertake system analysis and design, including workflow, using software tools as appropriate

Participate in the collating and accurately documenting system requirement specifications

Undertake screen configurations, taking into account customer requirements and work processes, working to tight deadlines

Assist in software testing as required. This will include any upgrade to any system, ensuring that test scripts are completed as appropriate reporting back on outcomes

To undertake various aspects of project delivery, including implementation tasks, presentations, demonstrations and post go live floor walking

Assist with the development of documentation that will help the Trust utilise the full benefits of the systems facilities

To participate in project teams and other project activities as required

To assist with end user training and awareness as required including mentoring of departmental staff to ensure a high standard of data quality for speedy and effective treatment of patients and for the efficient running of the organisation

Assist in the production and maintenance of contingency plans and functioning systems for IT business continuity.

Attend relevant IT Systems user groups to keep updated with new releases or changes to the system, suggest improvements and share good practise.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Knowledge of a range of IT areas acquired through qualification to degree or equivalent level or relevant experience.
  • Training in the use of IT systems to support health and/or business functions.
Desirable
  • Hospital IT systems training.
  • Training experience.

Experience

Essential
  • Experience using and supporting users of a health or business system
  • Systems configuration and maintenance experience
  • Demonstrable experience using Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience of software testing
  • Reports, minutes and article writing
  • Data Protection, Caldicott principles and other IT relevant legislation
Desirable
  • Experience of implementing PAS and/or EPR/clinical information systems
  • Operational hospital experience
  • Experience using Visio and MS Project software
  • Knowledge of Prince 2 project methodology
