Role: Senior RTS (SCADA) Design Engineer
Sector: Power & Utilities Infrastructure
Location: Hillingdon
Start Date: ASAP
Type: Full-Time Permanent
Salary: Competitive + Package
Join a leading utility and infrastructure engineering business delivering critical high-voltage power projects across the UK. Working at the forefront of the energy transition, you'll play a key role in designing the real-time systems, SCADA solutions and communications networks that enable the safe, efficient and reliable operation of electrical substations.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior RTS professional to take ownership of complex projects across voltage levels from 11kV to 132kV, helping modernise and strengthen the UK's electricity network while influencing technical standards and engineering best practice.
The Role
As a Senior RTS Design Engineer, you will lead the design and development of Real Time Systems (RTS), SCADA architectures and substation communications solutions across a diverse portfolio of HV infrastructure projects.
Working throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through to commissioning and handover, you'll be responsible for delivering technically robust, compliant and future-ready solutions that meet utility network requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design of RTS, SCADA and substation automation systems for HV network projects.
- Producing and reviewing detailed engineering deliverables including system architectures, communications topologies, interface designs and data mapping schedules.
- Defining and coordinating communications solutions across fibre, IP-based and operational telecoms networks.
- Supporting the specification, configuration and integration of RTUs, telemetry systems, control panels and associated equipment.
- Working closely with protection, electrical and telecoms engineering teams to deliver fully integrated solutions.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant utility, industry and regulatory standards while supporting technical assurance and approval processes.
- Providing technical support during construction, testing, commissioning and system integration activities.
- Reviewing third-party designs and driving quality, consistency and engineering excellence across projects.
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers while contributing to the continuous improvement of design standards and processes.
About You
You'll be a technically strong RTS/SCADA engineer with experience delivering real-time systems solutions within electrical utility environments and the confidence to lead complex engineering challenges.
You'll bring:
- Proven experience designing and delivering RTS, SCADA and substation automation systems within HV electrical networks.
- Strong knowledge of RTUs, telemetry systems, control panels and operational communications infrastructure.
- Experience with fibre optic, IP-based and utility communications networks.
- Ability to produce and review detailed RTS and SCADA design documentation, system architectures and data mapping schedules.
- Understanding of utility, DNO, transmission or critical infrastructure design standards and governance requirements.
- Experience supporting testing, commissioning and system integration activities.
- Strong stakeholder management and technical leadership skills.
- A collaborative approach with the ability to guide, mentor and develop engineering teams.
Why Apply?
You'll be joining a rapidly growing engineering and infrastructure business delivering some of the UK's most important energy and utility projects. The organisation is investing heavily in the future of the power sector, offering the opportunity to work on high-profile programmes that directly support network resilience, decarbonisation and energy security.
In return, you'll benefit from:
- Exposure to nationally significant infrastructure projects.
- The opportunity to influence engineering standards and technical delivery.
- A supportive and collaborative engineering environment.
- Genuine career progression within a growing business.
- The chance to play a key role in shaping the future of the UK's energy infrastructure.
If you're looking for a senior technical role where your expertise will have a real impact on critical utility projects, we'd love to hear from you.
