Cyber Security Engineer Hybrid – North East Region Salary from £45,000 + Up to 10% Bonus Excellent Training, Certifications & Career Progression Are you building your career in cyber security and looking for a role where you can grow your technical capability through hands-on work, structured training, and industry-recognised certification We’re supporting a major organisation responsible for delivering essential services across the UK, and they’re looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to help strengthen their defences and improve their security posture.This role is ideal for someone who wants to develop their skill set across incident response, cloud security, vulnerability management and cyber awareness. You’ll be joining a supportive team where learning is encouraged, ongoing development is resourced, and gaining certifications is actively backed (including SSCP, ITIL and cloud accreditations).This goes beyond routine monitoring — you’ll play a key part in enhancing security resilience, improving threat response processes, and helping embed a security-first mindset across the business.Please note: Due to the nature of the work, security vetting will be required. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the identification, investigation, and resolution of security incidents
  • Monitor evolving threats, manage vulnerabilities, and help maintain effective security controls
  • Work closely with IT and Infrastructure teams to secure cloud and on-prem environments
  • Analyse security alerts, prioritise risks, and coordinate remediation activity
  • Assist with simulated cyber-attacks and awareness initiatives to strengthen internal readiness
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement programmes linked to regulatory and operational resilience
What We’re Looking For You don’t need to tick every box — if you have a good foundation in cyber or IT security and are keen to advance, training will be provided.
  • Experience with SIEM, event analysis or security tooling
  • Exposure to incident response, malware/EDR technology, or vulnerability scanning
  • Good understanding of Microsoft environments (O365, AD) and basic networking
  • Familiarity with patching processes, Intune/SCCM or similar technologies
  • Strong Windows experience; Linux knowledge is a bonus
  • Awareness of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and web filtering/proxy solutions
  • Understanding of risk, controls and security best practice
