Pay Rate: £750-£800 per day via PAYE Umbrella (Inside IR35)
Contract Length: Until 31st March 2026
EGL2 is looking to appoint a dedicated Senior Cable Engineering Consultant to lead and deliver cable engineering works for 525kV HVDC and 400kV AC cables. This is a full-time position for a minimum of 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Lead Design Assurance Engineer (LDAE) for EGL2 cable works as defined in National Grid BP/SR188.
- Fulfil the LDAE role, including design review, hazard review, attending design and hazard review meetings, and assuring design deliverables.
- Agree on the Design & Hazard review meeting strategy with the Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer (LCDAE) for design deliverables.
- Proactively coordinate with the LCDAE to provide an approved design.
- Support other work/design packages for EGL2 as required for cable interfaces.
- Provide ad-hoc and independent assistance/assessment for escalated/complex technical items.
- Participate in cable discipline team discussions.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
- Lead and participate in regular meetings, both internally with EGL2 and with other consultants and stakeholders.
- Coordinate and ensure design interfaces with 400kV AC substation & 525kV HVDC converter station for end-to-end connection.
- Provide weekly and monthly progress updates to the EGL2 engineering manager.
- Review and accept ITP/Pre-qualification test/Type Test/QA documents.
- Coordinate with cable contractors (HVDC (Prysmian) & HVAC (HEBAM (NKT)) to get documentation and achieve NG Type Registration & SSEN-T equipment approval.
- Attend monthly progress meetings in Europe (Milan, Italy).
- Use the EGL2 document management system for project documentation. Meeting attendance by MS Teams and in person as required.
Skills and Experience:
- National Grid Design Assurance Engineer (preferably Lead Design Assurance Engineer) authorization (TP141).
- Experience in 525kV HVDC and 400kV AC cable system design.
- Experience with NG and SSEN projects design delivery.
- Experience in pre-qualification testing, type testing, and factory acceptance testing.
- Knowledge and understanding of National Grid standards, design handbook, and processes:
