Telecoms Engineer (Desk & Field Based)

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled and technically capable Telecoms Engineer to install, maintain, troubleshoot and coordinate telecoms and connectivity services across multiple product sets. This is a hands-on, field-based role: day-to-day, you will be installing structured cabling and WiFi access points, setting up hosted phone systems, coordinating orders and diagnosing/resolving faults on customer sites.

This role suits someone with a solid grounding in telecoms installation and network troubleshooting who enjoys hands-on technical work, is comfortable working independently on customer sites, and takes pride in getting the detail right.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate and test structured cabling (Cat5/Cat6/Cat6a) to a high standard, including first and second fix, patching and labelling.
  • Install and maintain WiFi access points, ensuring correct placement, cabling, power (PoE) and connectivity checks.
  • Carry out network troubleshooting, including basic router/switch configuration and connectivity checks, to diagnose and resolve faults on site.
  • Proactively communicate with customers regarding appointment times, delays, or changes to scope.
  • Ensure equipment, materials and site access are in place ahead of each visit, keeping job logs and internal systems accurate and up to date
  • Install Hosted Phone Systems to customers' specifications and satisfaction
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot telecoms and connectivity faults, escalating where necessary.
  • Liaise with third-party engineers and subcontractors to ensure work is delivered to specification and on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, faults, and resolutions, including photos and completion sign-off where required. This includes site survey documents and risk assessments.
  • Identify and flag risks or delays to delivery timescales and support resolution to keep projects on track.
  • Follow health & safety procedures at all times when working on customer sites.
  • Coordinate orders with the various relevant stakeholders
  • Update CRM with relevant information and ensure accuracy

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in telecoms installation, including fault-finding and troubleshooting.
  • Experienced in structured cabling, inclusive but not limited to Cat5/Cat6/Cat6a.
  • Installing and maintaining WiFi access points.
  • Installing hosted phone systems.
  • Network troubleshooting.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate multiple jobs and priorities at once.
  • High attention to detail, particularly around scheduling accuracy and job documentation.
  • A willingness to learn new products, systems and technologies as the product set evolves.
  • Comfortable working both independently in the field and as part of a delivery team.
  • Good communication skills, confident liaising with customers, engineers and suppliers.
  • Full UK driving licence (required for field visits).

Desirable/Not essential

  • Experience with Salesforce
  • Previous experience in a delivery, coordination, or project support role within telecoms or IT.
