Strategic Analyst Manager

Job summary

We are looking for a Strategic Analyst Manager for a 12 month Maternity leave cover to help deliver our strategy and become a truly data-centric organisation. You will help project manage and lead small, dedicated teams of analysts to provide insight from data for procurement managers in London and across the country.

You will have a thorough understanding of reporting and analytical tools such as Power BI (or similar) and Excel. Knowledge of the Azure platform, Microsoft Fabric, SQLand data warehousing will also be a distinct advantage. You can design reporting and analytics products that you can then present to industry experts showing them valuable and actionable insight from data. Your clients can then use your analytical insight to reduce costs, improve compliance and internal processes so that they can realise cost savings faster.

You will have significant experience in providing analytical support to finance and procurement professionals. Excellent communication skills are essential for dealing with internal stakeholders as well as with senior stakeholders from external organisations such as NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Systems, regional NHS procurement hubs, NHSE\I and the DHSE.

Please note - following the current remote working legislature due to the pandemic, the post holder will be required to visit member organisations (mainly in London) and occasionally to attend meetings with our national partners held across the country.

Main duties of the job

Manage the function/programme, building a collaborative working environment and an innovative culture.

Transfers expertise and knowledge as appropriate, regarding innovation issues throughout the team and externally to senior stakeholders- including developing and delivering formal briefing/training to promote innovation.

Support an effective matrix approach to achieve LPP objectives.

To manage, motivate, inspire, and develop staff within the team to ensure that they can deliver the responsibilities of LPP.

Be responsible for the recruitment and development of BI staff, including undertaking appraisal, staff develop and where appropriate progressing employee relation matters.

Responsible for managing multiple functions within the team and the corporate function.

Develop strategies and projects for BI and Analytics solutions managing projects that deliver actionable information from data and using specialist tools to convert data into actionable information Cross checking internal and external information sources and managing projects that develop tools that automate these processes where achievable.

Oversee projects that compile and deliver business intelligence reports to end users on a regular basis.

Please note that as an organisation NHS LPP has been hosted by Guy's & St Thomas' (GSTT) NHS Foundation Trust since 2012 and provides the legal framework and supporting services under which NHS LPP operates. However, NHS LPP is a membership organisation funded and governed by its members and not GSTT. NHS LPP staff are employed by GSTT.

NHS LPP develops and manages collaborative procurement projects on behalf of its members including acute, community and mental health trusts, as well as CCGs. NHS LPP has a number of members outside of London. This role requires the postholder to manage collaborative procurement within the normal NHS membership but also working with other public sector bodies, advising and managing their procurement processes to deliver benefit to the wider public sector.

The organisation will continue to develop as a centre of commercial excellence that delivers significant and sustainable cost and service improvements to all stakeholders primarily in the London NHS economy but also outside London.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead on local and national procurement , reporting to and on behalf of our London based member trusts, participate in national finance and procurement data projects such supporting the delivery of the overall PTOM roadmap (Operating Target Model), Model Hospital and working with national bodies and organisations such as Arms Length bodies.. As such we expect the post holder to be familiar with national procurement initiatives, issues and challenges within NHS procurement and to have category knowledge or the ability to pick up NHS category knowledge quickly.

It is expected that the post holder will be supporting member trusts in data driven decision making in procurement a number of our analytical projects are consulting projects where we actively communicate with our stakeholders and manage their analytical needs, consulting them on best practice where needed; as a result the post holder will need to be able to present the analytics team as a professional centre of excellence.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Sound working knowledge of design architecture, data warehousing, commercial business intelligence tools and analytical methods
Desirable
  • Project Management experience e.g. Agile

Previous Experience

Essential
  • Managing BI projects Managing a team of at least 2/3 staff Reporting, business case development Client relationship Data / presentation
Desirable
  • At least four years' experience working in an NHS IM&T/Informatics or procurement Department or another large organisation with at least 2 working within an analytics service.

Skills

Essential
  • Strong skills in communication, team working and negotiation
  • Good organisational skills used in planning the work priorities of others
  • Excellent software skills, including Windows products including advanced keyboard skills to enable the rapid and accurate manipulation of data at speed.
