Are you currently an Intensive Care Pharmacist who is looking for a new challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Specialist Clinical Pharmacist with Critical Care experience to join our pharmacy team at The Wellington Hospital, currently rated Good by the CQC. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with excellent clinical skills to lead and transform our pharmacy services for Critical Care and Antimicrobial Stewardship.

The Wellington covers a number of specialist units including ICU Gynaecology CCU/HDU, Cardiac Treatment and Digestive Health. Joining this team can give you experience and exposure to these different areas and experts within these fields.

You must possess the vision and enthusiasm to take the services forward. You will be responsible for providing high quality comprehensive clinical pharmacy service across two intensive care units in the Wellington South and North hospitals. In addition, you will be the lead pharmacist for antimicrobial stewardship where you will oversee the coordination of the microbiology ward rounds and support on the antimicrobial stewardship strategy for the hospital.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for Critical Care & Antimicrobial Stewardship will lead and assist with the quality, governance, and assurance of the pharmacy services for Critical Care. In addition, they will work as part of the multidisciplinary Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) team at the hospital to deliver the AMS strategy.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will support the Adult Critical Care units to ensure safe, optimal and cost-effective medicines usage, improve patient outcomes and reduce mortality. The role requires a strategic view to the provision of Critical Care Pharmacy Services and is responsible for leading quality improvement and governance initiatives for the therapeutics aspect of the Adult Critical Care Service to develop the service in line with the Pharmacy Department and Hospital objectives.
  • The post holder will undertake and contribute to daily consultant-led critical care ward rounds, assist with antimicrobial stewardship, and develop close working relationships with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), Intensivists, Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) and pharmacy team to contribute to the smooth running of the Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
  • Through continuing professional development, you will develop your professional, technical, and clinical skills and provide a service of excellence to patients and staff and will aspire to be a respected clinician in the field.
  • As a member of the pharmacy team, you will be required to provide general training and development of pharmacists and medical staff within critical care and AMS. You will be required to ensure implementation of procedures and be responsible for updating and reviewing policies and procedures relevant to the clinical area.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • GPhC Registration
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Extensive relevant pharmacy experience including providing a clinical pharmacy service to critical care at an advanced level
  • Experience in ICU
  • An interest in antimicrobial stewardship with desirable experience
  • Strong initiative and commitment, with a can do attitude to work
  • Be enthusiastic with an ability to motivate yourself and team. Possess excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills and demonstrate good problem-solving skills.
