Job description
This role demands a high degree of autonomy, judgement and creativity in applying data protection principles to complex and emerging technologies. The post holder will lead the completion and integration of the ICO's AI and Data Protection Risk Toolkit and Governance and Accountability in AI Toolkit, support DPIA owners in identifying and mitigating AI-related risks, and champion innovative approaches to data protection by design and default. They will represent HM Land Registry in internal and external forums, contribute to policy development, and deputise for the Data Protection Officer when required.
As a leading practitioner, you will build, guide, and develop the data protection team which is likely to expand and reshape as HMLR launches the ambitious 2025+ Strategy and subsequent sub strategies, which include Data, Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Counter Fraud. As HMLR navigates this new strategic landscape, the team's adaptability and expertise will be central to supporting the organisation's goals and safeguarding its information assets.

Person specification
To be successful in this role you will have practitioner level qualification in data protection such as the British Computer Society Certificate Practitioner level or equivalent. Practical experience of providing expert data protection advice particularly in relation to AI and machine learning projects. You will have detailed knowledge of UK GDPR and associated codes of practice and experience leading cross-functional projects or initiatives with strategic impact. You have experience of risk management, particularly in emerging technologies and in influencing stakeholders at all levels.
Where an individual taking up the responsibility will be based in Swansea Office, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable.
