We are recruiting for a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established marine manufacturing business. Reporting to the Design Manager, you will lead the production and delivery of detailed electrical design packages for a range of luxury vessels.
 
This role requires strong knowledge of marine AC and DC electrical systems, along with the ability to produce accurate electrical schematics, panel drawings and cable-running schedules.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee and maintain electrical design standards across the vessel range.
• Produce, check, update and issue 2D electrical schematics and panel drawings using AutoCAD.
• Develop project-specific electrical design information for Production.
• Produce accurate cable-running schedules, considering manufacturing and installation requirements.
• Establish clear scopes of supply using project Master Work Lists.
• Lead the Electrical Design Change Request process.
• Ensure electrical design information is accurate and delivered within agreed deadlines.
• Provide technical guidance to Electrical Designers and Electrical Production Managers.
• Manage resources and workloads within the Electrical Design team.
• Work closely with Production, Engineering, Joinery, Procurement and Client Management teams.
• Attend development, production and project meetings, responding to technical feedback.
• Support the electrical design requirements of external suppliers.
• Ensure designs reflect project variations and production requirements.
• Contribute to product improvement, R&D and value-engineering projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve electrical systems, quality and manufacturing efficiency.
• Keep up to date with developments and best practices in marine electrical technology.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• In-depth knowledge of marine AC and DC electrical systems, materials and installation techniques.
• Strong understanding of electrical installation within yacht or small-craft production.
• Sound knowledge of vessel systems, component locations and installation requirements.
• Significant electrical design experience within the marine industry or a comparable engineering environment.
• Strong AutoCAD skills with experience producing detailed 2D electrical drawings.
• Able to interpret manufacturing and installation requirements and translate them into accurate design information.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality.
• Able to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
• Proactive, organised and confident taking ownership of design activities.
• Design-related degree, relevant qualification or equivalent electrical design experience.
• 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations qualification.

Desirable Experience:

• This role would suit someone from the Marine Industry but they will also look at Automotive or Aerospace.
• Marine digital switching systems such as CZone.
• Yacht or small-craft production.
• Leading or coordinating electrical design resources.
• BMEA Marine Electrical Technician qualification.
