The Client & Banking Analytics (CBA) team within CIB transforms data with strategic analytics, driving insight, innovation, and commercial performance across HSBC. As the business owner of Omnia and CME, CBA is instrumental in driving their strategic development to simplify data analytics, enhance business intelligence, and ultimately drive client and shareholder excellence. We deliver data-driven insights to optimize investment across clients, products, channels, and resources, and to enhance pricing. Through disciplined governance, consistent methodology, and fact-based analysis (including client peer benchmarking, wallet sizing, and customer feedback), CBA fosters business optimization, strengthens CIB partnerships, and provides critical insights for shaping CIB's commercial strategy.

The Role:

As Director and Head of the Client Intelligence pillar, you are a strategic leader defining and executing data science strategy for commercializing HSBC's client data. You will lead the pillar's focus on client profiling, measuring customer value, and wallet sizing, with the primary objective of identifying growth opportunities, defining high-potential clients, and enhancing the client experience. This pivotal role involves integrating HSBC's vast internal client data with external datasets, transforming them into commercially-oriented insights that inform strategic and commercial decision-making across CIB. You will lead a high-performing data science team, drive advanced analytics innovation, and foster a collaborative CIB-wide data and analytics community, coordinating with various Heads of Data across CIB verticals to ensure synergistic, non-duplicative commercial insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Data Science & Commercialization: Define and drive the strategic roadmap for commercializing internal and external client data through advanced analytics. Lead the development of client profiling, wallet sizing, and customer value measurement to size CIB's accessible wallet, identify growth opportunities and high-potential clients.
  • Advanced Analytics Leadership: Oversee the design, development, and deployment of sophisticated analytical models (predictive, machine learning, statistical) that provide actionable insights to CIB leadership and frontline teams.
  • Data Integration & Innovation: Champion the integration of diverse datasets, fostering innovation in data science techniques and emerging technologies to enhance analytical capabilities and client experience.
  • Cross-CIB Data & Analytics Community & Coordination: Lead the establishment and ongoing management of a CIB-wide data and analytics community, collaborating with various Heads of Data and Analytics across CIB verticals. Drive initiatives to identify synergies, reduce duplication, foster best practices, and ensure complementary analytics support the strategic goals of CIB, CBA, and other contributing teams.
  • Strategic Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with CIB leadership to understand strategic needs, align analytical initiatives, and ensure the successful adoption and impact of client intelligence insights.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists and analytical professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Governance & Best Practices: Establish and maintain robust data governance standards and best practices for analytical model development, deployment, and ethical use, ensuring accuracy and reliability of insights.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strategic Data Science Leadership: Proven track record in leading and scaling data science functions, with a deep understanding of how to commercialize data assets to drive business value and strategic decision-making in a large financial institution, including knowledge of the external market data landscape.
  • Advanced Analytical Expertise: Mastery in data science, machine learning, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics, with practical experience overseeing the application of these techniques to complex business problems.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong command of data science programming languages (Python, R, SQL) and experience with big data platforms (Hadoop, Spark) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • CIB Domain Mastery: Expert-level understanding of Corporate and Institutional Banking products, client segments, commercial drivers, and the competitive landscape. Experience in client segmentation, wallet sizing, client profiling, and peer benchmarking within a CIB context.
  • Influential Communication & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication, influencing, and presentation skills, with a proven ability to engage and align senior CIB stakeholders on complex analytical strategies and outcomes, and to coordinate across diverse analytics functions.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Extensive experience in building, leading, and inspiring high-performing data science teams, fostering an environment of innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Strategic Execution & Innovation: A visionary leader with a strong strategic mindset and a track record of driving significant business impact through data-driven innovation and effective execution in dynamic global environments.

Qualifications:
