The Role
\n
This role is the engineering excellence anchor across CTO Foundations within Analytics and Common Components. As Principal Engineer, you will shape technical strategy and set high standards for design and code across a portfolio of agile teams that support HSBC's global businesses across all regions. The focus includes containerisation for multiple cloud deployments and an inner source pattern-based approach that improves consistency and reusability across domains including Risk and Finance. Success means shipping high quality software efficiently with automation built in from the start to reduce toil. You'll influence senior stakeholders on technology direction while keeping delivery aligned to HSBC Technology's strategic vision. The role stays hands-on with coding as a core part of how outcomes are achieved.

- Set engineering standards for design, code quality and delivery across Analytics and Common Components
\nShape and communicate technical strategy aligned to HSBC Technology's strategic visionBuild reusable patterns and services that support multiple value stream domains including Risk and FinanceEmbed containerised and microservice-based approaches for deployments across multiple cloud providersDeliver hands-on engineering across the stack with coding as a major part of the roleEstablish automation-first ways of working to reduce toil and improve delivery efficiencyChampion DORA and other engineering metrics and strengthen KPIs over timeResearch new technology and processes then advance safe adoption within a controlled framework\n
What we're looking for

- Bring substantial hands-on software engineering experience with coding as a core part of the role
\nDemonstrate deep expertise in one or more of Java Python or Go with Kubernetes and cloudApply strong microservice design capability and practical experience with containerised solutionsShow experience designing and running highly available systems at scaleDemonstrate experience deploying solutions across different cloud providers in an agnostic wayTranslate business opportunities into technical solutions with a pragmatic approach to delivery and strategyCommunicate technology direction clearly to senior stakeholders and influence decisions on delivery approachUse engineering metrics including DORA to evaluate performance and improve outcomes over time\n
Building reusable foundations at scale

This is a chance to shape how engineering is done across a foundational technology area that enables teams across regions and businesses. The work will raise consistency and reusability through patterns and services while improving quality and efficiency through automation and engineering discipline.
