Job summary

HUC is recruiting a Cyber Security Specialist to join our Digital Team and help ensure the security, confidentiality, integrity and availability of information, assets, systems and services across the organization.

Main duties of the job

Embed Secure by Design principles into projects and operational processes, working closely with internal teams and external partners.

Identify and assess cyber risks, providing clear, contextualised advice to support informed decision-making and build cyber resilience.

Provide pragmatic and proportionate security guidance across a range of technical and strategic issues, aligning with organisational and national priorities.

Develop and deliver cyber security training to raise awareness and support a positive security culture across the agency.

Providing security consultation on projects, strategic programs, and procurement activities, defining cyber and technical controls inline with policy, and ensuring Secure by Design principles are embedded.

Providing cyber security consultation within the HUC Change Management process, assessing the potential security impact of proposed changes to digital services and infrastructure to ensure risks are identified, documented, and appropriately mitigated.

Leading the security assessment and risk evaluation of SaaS and desktop applications requested by the Business, ensuring alignment with HUC's organisational security standards, ISMS suite, risk appetite and data protection regulations.

Work collaboratively with Technical Architecture colleagues, and third parties, to scope security testing for HUC applications and environments.

Job responsibilities

The Cyber Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring the protection of HUC computer systems, network, and data from security threats such as cyberattacks, unauthorized access, and data breaches. This role involves monitoring security systems, analysing vulnerabilities, responding to incidents, and implementing security measures that ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets

Main responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor networks and systems for security breaches, unusual activity, and potential threats.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to identify security weaknesses.
  • Implement, manage, and maintain security tools, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), SIEM tools, antivirus software, and encryption solutions.
  • Investigate and respond to security incidents, including forensic analysis and incident reporting.
  • Develop, update, and enforce cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT and ServiceDesk teams to strengthen security posture across infrastructure, software, and cloud environments.
  • Perform risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Provide security training and awareness programs for employees.
  • Stay current with emerging cyber threats, technologies, and best practices.
  • Assist with compliance requirements

Person Specification

Further experiences

Essential
  • CEH, Security+, CISSP, CISM OSCP / OSCE Cloud security certifications (AWS Security, Azure Security)
  • Experience handling real-world security incidents Penetration testing Knowledge of malware analysis and attack techniques Familiarity with compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, PCI-DSS)
