Role Overview
We are looking for a Proofpoint Engineer to join on a 6-month hybrid contract based in Wokingham (3 days on-site). The role leads the design, implementation, administration, and optimisation of Proofpoint security solutions within a large enterprise environment, bringing deep expertise across email security, threat protection, DLP, and email authentication technologies to protect against phishing, malware, and advanced email-based threats.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the engineer for the Proofpoint platform, designing, deploying, configuring, and maintaining solutions including Proofpoint Email Protection (PEP), Targeted Attack Protection (TAP), Threat Response Auto-Pull (TRAP), Email Fraud Defense (EFD), and Information Protection/DLP
- Manage email security policies, spam filtering, malware protection, and threat detection rules, configuring and maintaining email authentication protocols including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to email-based security incidents, conducting threat analysis and providing recommendations to enhance email security posture
- Collaborate with SOC, Security Operations, Infrastructure, and Microsoft 365 teams on security initiatives, performing platform upgrades, health checks, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
- Provide L3/L4 technical support, mentor junior security engineers, develop operational procedures and technical documentation, and support audits and compliance activities
Top 5 Skills
- 8+ years in cybersecurity or enterprise security administration with 4+ years hands-on Proofpoint experience across PEP, TAP, TRAP, EFD, and DLP solutions
- Strong expertise in email security, anti-phishing controls, email gateway technologies, and threat intelligence, with hands-on knowledge of SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Exchange Server, SMTP routing, and mail flow architecture in enterprise environments
- Proven capability in security incident investigation and remediation, with strong understanding of malware analysis and advanced email threats, and familiarity with SIEM platforms such as Splunk, Sentinel, or QRadar
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and stakeholder communication skills - desirable: PowerShell or Python Scripting experience, and SC clearance or SC eligibility preferred for this environment
Contract Details:
- Rate: £450 per day Inside IR35
- Location: Hybrid (3x a week) in Wokingham
- Contract Length: 6 - Month Initial Contract
