Provisioning Engineer - 12 months - Hybrid - Inside IR35

We're recruiting for 4x Provisioning Engineers to design, configure, test, and activate telecom network services across optical and IP Networks for a leading telecom/network infrastructure organisation. The role focuses on transmission technologies such as Ciena 6500, DWDM, ROADM, and Flexgrid, alongside network capacity management, service activation, technical documentation, and customer service delivery support - with exposure to cutting-edge optical networking technologies and next-generation transport solutions powering global connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and document optical transmission and packet network solutions using L2/L3 technologies
  • Review network designs to ensure scalability, performance, and alignment with long-term network strategy
  • Manage network capacity planning and recommend infrastructure upgrades to support service growth
  • Configure, provision, and test network equipment including Routers, Switches, and multiplexers
  • Support service activation and implementation across optical and IP network technologies
  • Optimise network utilisation through capacity reallocation and disconnection management activities
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, network records, and engineering standards
  • Monitor network performance and use optical testing tools to ensure service reliability
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal policies, and technical design standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver customer network solutions efficiently

What You Will Ideally Bring

  • Extensive experience in optical transmission networks, particularly with Ciena 6500 platforms
  • Strong knowledge of DWDM, ROADM, Flexgrid, and photonic layer technologies
  • Solid understanding of IP Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and protocols
  • Knowledge and practical exposure to BGP and MPLS technologies (highly desirable)
  • Experience configuring, provisioning, and testing network elements including Routers, Switches, and multiplexers
  • Ability to interpret complex technical specifications, engineering procedures, and network designs
  • Hands-on experience with optical testing equipment and network performance monitoring tools
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with a pragmatic approach
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration abilities
  • Experience with additional optical transport platforms such as Nokia, Adva, and Ekinops (desirable)
  • Vendor certifications from Ciena, Cisco, Juniper, or Nokia (desirable)
