Role Overview
A Microsoft Purview DLP Consultant is responsible for designing and implementing data protection strategies to prevent sensitive information from being lost, misused, or exposed across an organisation. They work closely with security and compliance teams to define data classification, labelling, and encryption policies using tools such as Microsoft Purview, Information Protection, and AD RMS.
The role combines technical implementation with advisory elements, ensuring DLP controls align with business needs, regulatory requirements, and user workflows while minimising disruption and false positives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage Microsoft Purview DLP policies across M365 (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Endpoint)
- Define and deploy data classification and sensitivity labelling strategies, including encryption and protection via Microsoft Information Protection/AD RMS
- Conduct data discovery and risk assessments to identify and protect sensitive information across the organisation
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to DLP alerts and incidents, ensuring effective remediation and reporting
- Collaborate with security, compliance, and business teams to align controls with regulatory and governance requirements (eg GDPR, ISO)
What You Will Ideally Bring:
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview (DLP, Information Protection, Compliance Center)
- Experience with Azure Information Protection (AIP) and/or AD RMS, including encryption, rights management, and policy enforcement
- Expertise in data classification, sensitivity labels, and policy tuning to minimise false positives
- Knowledge of the Microsoft 365 security ecosystem (Defender, Insider Risk, eDiscovery, Cloud App Security)
- Understanding of data privacy and compliance frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001)
