SAP Technical Architect - 12 Month Contract - Inside IR35 - Hybrid (Manchester/London, 4 days onsite)

We're recruiting for an SAP Technical Architect to define, design, and govern the overall technical architecture of SAP landscapes across SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, SAP BTP, SAP PI/PO, and SAP Fiori/UI5 as part of a greenfield implementation, rollout, enhancement, and steady-state programme on SAP RISE for a leading UK retailer. New applications are being provisioned and configured to support new SAP standard retail functionality, with technical setup and configuration required to enable functional build deployment ahead of SIT, UAT, and performance testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, design, and govern SAP technical architecture across S/4HANA, ECC, BTP, PI/PO, and Fiori/UI5
  • Ensure high-performance, scalable, secure, and future-ready SAP solutions aligned with business strategy and IT roadmaps
  • Provide technical leadership for ABAP, Fiori/UI5, OData, CDS Views, and SAP Basis teams
  • Design SAP system landscapes across DEV/QAS/PRD/DR environments, including sizing, performance tuning, HA, and DR configurations
  • Own SAP HANA database architecture, optimisation, backup/restore strategies, and security
  • Design end-to-end integration patterns across SAP and non-SAP systems (CRM, eCommerce, SCM, WMS, POS, Finance) using BTP Integration Suite (CPI), PI/PO, APIs (REST/SOAP/OData), IDocs, RFCs, and event-driven architectures

What You Will Ideally Bring

  • Strong hands-on experience designing and governing SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC technical architectures
  • Deep understanding of SAP system landscape design and SAP Basis, including HA/DR configurations
  • Strong experience with SAP HANA database architecture and optimisation
  • Expertise across SAP integration technologies: BTP Integration Suite (CPI), PI/PO, APIs, IDocs, RFCs, event-driven architectures
  • Working knowledge of SAP on Cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Strong understanding of SAP security architecture, roles/authorisation, SSO, and compliance
  • Proven experience leading SAP technical tracks in large implementations, migrations, or S/4HANA transformations
  • Familiarity with TOGAF, Zachman, or SAP's Enterprise Architecture Framework
  • Exposure to microservices and event-driven systems (Kafka, Event Hub)
  • Experience with SAP BTP advanced services (Workflow, Business Rules, Event Mesh, API Management)
  • Knowledge of DevOps/CI-CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
  • Knowledge of SAP BW/4HANA, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), or cloud-native analytics
  • Experience in complex enterprise environments - retail, manufacturing, FMCG, pharma, or supply chain-heavy industries
