Rate: £500 per day Inside IR35
Location: Fully Remote

Role Overview:
We are looking for a Technical Architect - Disaster Recovery Runbooks to join on a 3-month remote contract. The role is accountable for the design, development, and validation of end-to-end disaster recovery runbooks, establishing a consistent and technically credible recovery approach for each in-scope IT service aligned to BIA-driven requirements.
Note: Active, transferable SC clearance is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse BIA outputs to understand service criticality, RTO/RPO, and recovery sequencing requirements, working with stakeholders to define minimum viable recovery states per service
- Design technically sound DR recovery approaches including severe failure scenarios, developing service-specific runbooks with clear recovery sequencing, explicit decision points, and operational clarity
- Lead structured walkthrough and tabletop testing of recovery runbooks, identifying gaps, risks, and unrealistic steps, then refining procedures based on outcomes
- Work with Application Support SMEs and infrastructure teams to extract undocumented system knowledge and validate application architecture, dependencies, and failure modes
- Provide formal handover to Application Support teams ensuring clarity of ownership, and define standards, templates, and quality guides for ongoing runbook maintenance
What You Will Ideally Bring:
- Proven hands-on experience designing and documenting end-to-end DR solutions from scratch, including minimum viable recovery states and severe failure scenarios such as full environment loss
- Strong ability to interpret BIA outputs and translate business recovery requirements into executable technical recovery steps, with a deep understanding of RTO/RPO principles and their technical implications
- Demonstrated experience creating operational runbooks with clear, structured instructions, explicit pass/fail decision points, and documentation suitable for execution under pressure
- Deep understanding of application architectures (monolith, microservices, SaaS, COTS), infrastructure components, and cloud and hybrid recovery patterns including backup/restore, rebuild, and rehydration
- Experience leading tabletop exercises and runbook walkthrough testing, with strong stakeholder engagement skills across application support, infrastructure, and solution architecture teams - SC clearance required (active and transferable)
